Leaders of Ho Chi Minh City Electricity Corporation apologize to customers for the inconvenience caused by changing the meter reading date, causing the August electricity bill to increase.
The above information was given by Mr. Bui Trung Kien, Deputy General Director of Ho Chi Minh City Electricity Company at a press conference on the city's economic and social situation on the afternoon of September 7.
"We sincerely apologize for these inconveniences and hope customers understand. The electricity industry will make every effort to answer each question," said Mr. Kien.

Previously, when the city's electricity sector issued bills for August, many people complained that their electricity bills had skyrocketed compared to the previous billing period. Explaining this, Mr. Kien said the main reason was that the electricity billing date was moved to the end of the month, so the number of days customers used electricity last month increased by 11 to 28 days depending on the previous billing period.
That is, in the past, the electricity meter reading schedule (manual reading) was assigned by the electricity companies on a daily basis from the 3rd to the 25th of each month to ensure sufficient manpower. However, currently, the electricity meter reading is completely automated remotely. Therefore, the city electricity company will record the meter reading at the end of the month. This helps customers easily remember the date for convenient payment along with other bills.
Mr. Kien also affirmed that in the month of changing the meter reading period, the living standard will be calculated additionally corresponding to the number of days changed according to regulations. "There will be no case where the electricity industry continues to use the old standard when the number of days recorded increases, causing customers to have to pay higher electricity bills," he said.
In addition, according to Mr. Kien, there is also an objective reason that customers have not noticed: the weather in August is hotter, so the demand for electricity is also higher than in July, causing the bill to increase.
Regarding the adjustment of the electricity meter reading date, Mr. Kien said that the company had notified customers and local authorities 15 days in advance so that people could be informed. After issuing the bill on August 31, 0.8% of customers had comments on this issue. The company has implemented explanations and the electricity bill payment rate has now reached over 60%, with no more customers having comments or questions.
To date, the city’s electricity sector has completed the transfer of meter readings to the end of each month for nearly two million customers. The remaining will be implemented in the coming time and 100% will be completed by 2024.
Regarding electricity consumption, according to Mr. Kien, customers can easily check their family's daily electricity consumption on the CSKH-EVNHCMC application for more information. If there are any questions, people can contact the hotline 1900545454, the official websites of the city's electricity or meet directly with employees at the companies for answers.
