The entrance exam for grade 6 at Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School took place on July 4 with more than 4,300 students participating, while the enrollment target was 350. There were many candidates taking the exam but the target was low, leading to a "competition" ratio of up to 1:12.
This is the first year the school enrolls 6th graders, after being separated from the former Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted.
Candidates can view their 6th grade exam scores at Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School on the website of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.
Contestants are students who have completed primary school in Ho Chi Minh City, with a score of 9 or higher in the end-of-year periodic test of each subject Vietnamese and Math in grade 5.
The school's 6th grade exam consists of 2 parts: essay and multiple choice, in both English and Vietnamese. The test time is 90 minutes.
The English section has 20 multiple choice questions testing knowledge of Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and common sense. The essay section includes English (listening, reading - comprehension, writing), Math thinking, and Reading - comprehension - writing.
Based on the exam scores, admission is taken from top to bottom.
