The Hanoi Department of Science and Technology has just requested postal and telecommunications enterprises in the city to deploy measures to prevent risks related to "leaking" personal information and protect service user databases.
The reminder on ensuring user data security of postal and telecommunications service providers in the capital was issued by the Hanoi Department of Science and Technology in the context of online fraud due to data leaks that is still on the rise.
According to Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Science and Technology Nguyen Tien Sy, recently, press agencies have continuously reported on fraud cases, impersonating employees of postal service providers - shippers to defraud and appropriate property.
Notably, scammers took advantage of leaked personal information of service users to contact customers, notify them of orders, and request money transfers.
“In the context of digital transformation and strong development of IT applications, personal information security has become extremely important. To protect privacy and avoid risks related to personal information disclosure and protect service user databases, the Hanoi Department of Science and Technology recommends that people and businesses providing postal and telecommunications services in the city take measures,” Mr. Nguyen Tien Sy emphasized.
Specifically, for businesses providing postal services, the official dispatch sent by the Hanoi Department of Science and Technology to businesses on March 24 clearly states: It is strictly forbidden to disclose information on the use of postal services such as full name, phone number, address of the recipient, sender...
Enterprises using information systems in providing postal services are required to prepare a proposal for level and conduct appraisal and approval of the proposal for level in accordance with the provisions of Decree 85/2016 of the Government on ensuring the security of information systems by level.
At the same time, properly and fully perform the responsibilities of enterprises when providing services on cyberspace as prescribed in Article 41 of the Law on Cyber Security; thoroughly understand and disseminate to departments and employees in enterprises the regulations on ensuring safety and security in providing postal services and protecting personal data.
Postal enterprises must also proactively develop solutions to protect service users' information and information systems such as identifying postal staff calls and encrypting information on postal items; and promote information channels and official digital platforms for users to know about the business.
For telecommunications service providers, the Hanoi Department of Science and Technology recommends paying attention to implementing solutions such as: Building a technical system and a centralized subscriber information database to enter, store, and manage information throughout the subscriber's service usage period; ensuring the confidentiality of subscriber information according to the provisions of law...
At the same time, enterprises providing postal and telecommunications services in Hanoi are required to seriously deploy, propagate and guide people to implement solutions to ensure user data security during service use.
The Hanoi Department of Science and Technology recommends that postal service users should limit sharing personal information on social networks and during livestream sessions; and be wary of calls, messages or emails requesting personal information or money transfers.
People should not access links with unclear addresses, without a blue tick or not publicly announced on the service provider's website; need to regularly update information warning of fraud methods and prevention measures through mass media and iHanoi application.
