(Dan Tri) - From a psychological perspective, Master Dang Hoang An assessed that the canvas lifestyle is a hot topic, and including it in essay topics is also a way to help students perceive and express their opinions on practical issues.
From social networks to exams
Recently, social networks have been discussing the mid-semester I essay topic of Mac Dinh Chi High School, Ho Chi Minh City. The essay topic impressed with its brevity, requiring students to write an essay about the promiscuous lifestyle of today's youth.

Many students seem to be interested in this topic. "Tarp" is a popular term on social networks such as TikTok, Facebook... and is often used by young people. This phrase refers to showing off or flaunting something that does not belong to you, with the aim of proving it to others.
Feeling both familiar and new is the feeling of BN, a student at Vo Van Kiet High School in Ho Chi Minh City after reading the exam questions. BN was surprised because the phrase he thought was only used for fun on the internet was included in the exam questions and thought he could do 3 sheets of paper.
"I found the topic realistic because the canvas trend is very hot. Reading the topic, the numbers kept popping up, and there were immediately evidences included in the essay, such as some people photoshopping receipts, falsely declaring donations for typhoon Yagi relief, and young people showing off huge incomes, buying houses and supercars online, pretending to live a luxurious life. I think you will have many sources to exploit to make your essay rich and impressive," she said.
Similarly, MB, a student at Luong Van Can High School in Ho Chi Minh City, shared that putting this situation into the exam will bring many perspectives from students. As soon as he saw the exam, he was inspired to write.
MB said that this is a topic that almost all young people know and care about, even familiar with and understand because they use the phrase "canvas" every day. I often see young people online showing off their huge assets, dropping out of school early but still earning hundreds of millions. This is proof that the canvas lifestyle is still going strong on social networks.

"Instead of discussing online, now we can express our thoughts through exams. Sharing opinions with friends is also more interesting, not just common literary knowledge," MB said.
Many young people are eager to prove themselves.
A teacher at a public high school in Ho Chi Minh City commented that the social issues raised in the exam were quite appropriate, current, and easy for students to apply.
However, in addition to the practicality of stimulating students' interest, some opinions say that the 45-minute test is not reasonable. According to Circular 22 on the assessment of secondary and high school students of the Ministry of Education and Training, the periodic assessment (in the form of doing tests on computers or on paper) for subjects with more than 70 periods/year is from 60 minutes to 90 minutes, for specialized subjects it is a maximum of 120 minutes.
Besides, the test does not have a Vietnamese part to fully test students' abilities.
This teacher said that although it does not follow the general structure of the regular midterm exam, this is a flexible change. Since this is a test for a specific school, the teacher can test the Vietnamese part in a different format, and 45 minutes for an essay question is also reasonable.
This teacher added that before the directive to eliminate centralized mid-term exams to reduce pressure on students, teachers can freely choose the form of assessment but must agree with the professional team on the matrix. However, if assessment is done in other forms, there must be a plan approved by the head of the professional team and the school board, and it must meet the criteria according to the regulations of the general education program.
From a psychological perspective, Master Dang Hoang An assessed that the canvas lifestyle is a hot topic at present, and including it in essay topics is also a way to help students perceive and express their views on practical issues.
He analyzed that the need to express oneself, the desire to attract attention, and the emphasis on material things make many young people crave and try to prove themselves in many ways.

"People often pay attention to shocking, rich issues.
Young people respond very quickly, get caught up in the likes, comments of praise and admiration, so they want to show off even more," said Master An.
Therefore, according to Master, when discussing this topic, students can think and draw their own lessons about the things they come into contact with every day online.
Not only showing off for fun, many people also "show off" indiscriminately, incorrectly and without control. This can reveal personal information or become victims of verbal violence and cyber violence.
From the actual exam, he said, to eliminate this lifestyle requires a long journey of training, education and awareness from each individual. In which, education from school and family is very important.
"Schools should organize seminars to guide students on life values and civilized behavior on social networks. Families need to teach lessons about honesty to the younger generation," said Master Dang Hoang An.
It can be seen that, according to the new program, the structure of the exam questions has changed to help students develop their abilities and be creative. More and more exam questions with new and practical topics appear.
However, there are many opinions on the inclusion of hot topics on the internet. Some people agree, others think that there needs to be a clear explanation of the terms, and consideration of sensitive, controversial topics that damage the purity of the school.
