The visit and study at Phu Quoc Prison is a meaningful activity, helping new soldiers better understand the history and revolutionary traditions of the nation. From there, they will raise awareness, responsibility, actively strive, study, practice, work, and successfully complete assigned tasks.

Phu Quoc Prison was built by the US-puppet regime in 1967, covering an area of about 400 hectares with nearly 500 prison cells, divided into 12 zones (each zone has 2 sub-zones). This place was dubbed “hell on earth” because the prison guards used all kinds of cruel and brutal tricks to subdue the fighting spirit of the revolutionary soldiers.

Phu Quoc Prison once held nearly 40,000 prisoners, most of whom were officers and soldiers of the armed forces, civil party cadres and patriotic citizens. Of these, about 4,000 revolutionary soldiers were killed by the enemy, and tens of thousands were injured and disabled by the enemy's brutal torture.

On December 31, 2014, the Prime Minister signed a decision to rank 14 special national monuments, including Phu Quoc Prison.
