(QBĐT) - The “white areas” of communication will create more gaps between remote areas and the plains and central areas. That gap is increasingly narrowing, with efforts to erase these “white areas” and fill them with information connections.
The village "welcomes" the waves...
Like many villages in Thuong Trach commune (Bo Trach), Cu Ton village has been a "blank area" in terms of information technology for many years. There is no electricity grid, no mobile signal, no internet to communicate and connect with the outside world, the lives of the people here are almost confined to the village.
To participate in a social activity together, in the past, Y Don and the women in the village had to go directly to each other's houses to call each other. But since the beginning of 2025, everything has changed, thanks to the internet, she and the people here use smartphones to know about life outside of where they live and learn many more things.
Unable to hide his joy, Y Don shared: "Now that we have a phone signal, we can make calls or send information back and forth, without having to run from house to house like before. I see on my phone that they grow vegetables, raise chickens, ducks, etc., and I wish I could do the same as them, to have a better life!"
Since 2022, a mobile transmitting and receiving station (BTS) has been built near Cu Ton village, but its capacity is weak, only meeting the minimum communication needs of Con Roang Border Post, the Provincial Border Guard and Cooc village. In January 2025, the station was upgraded and newly broadcast 4G, so the coverage area was expanded to Cu Ton village.
According to Deputy Political Commissar of Con Roang Border Post Nguyen Khanh Toan, since the expansion of mobile phone coverage in the commune, people have been able to grasp information and their awareness has been constantly improved. As for the Border Guard force, Viettel network has served to grasp the situation among the people, and at the same time facilitated coordination with other forces, contributing to ensuring security and order in the area under their charge.
Against the backdrop of "white areas"
In mid-March, we followed a delegation from Viettel Quang Binh to inspect the BTS stations that had just started construction and upgrading along Road 20 Quyet Thang, in the two communes of Tan Trach and Thuong Trach. The first stop was the BQH 0355-12 station at km18, which had just been built and broadcast on January 10, 2025.
Head of Infrastructure Department, Viettel Quang Binh Pham Quoc Dung shared: "At this location, we are very careful to speed up the progress, put the BTS station into use soon, serve the people and tourists who come to offer incense at the memorial stele of martyr and nurse Nguyen Thi Sang in Tan Trach commune. The construction process must preserve the landscape, not encroach on the core area of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. Because there is no grid electricity, the station is using a generator to maintain operations."
At km52, station QBH 0335-17 is located on a high hill in Co Do village (Thuong Trach commune) and is being urgently completed to put into operation and broadcast at the end of March 2025. According to the design, the station will cover a wide area of 5 villages in the commune, including: Co Do, 51, Cham Pu, Noong Moi, Noong Cu.
It is known that before the 19th session of the 18th Provincial People's Council, term 2021-2026, voters of Thuong Trach commune proposed that the province soon invest in BTS stations to cover mobile waves for these villages, and at the same time increase the transmission and reception capacity at the invested stations to cover the entire commune, so that people can access information and communication, especially in emergency situations such as: illness, natural disasters,...
The upcoming use of the BTS station in Co Do village will expand mobile coverage to the "white areas" in the commune, contributing to narrowing the gap between the highlands and lowlands as desired by voters of Thuong Trach commune.
Platform to promote digital transformation
Tan Trach and Thuong Trach communes were previously a “blank area” in terms of electricity and mobile phone signals. With the attention of the Party, the State and provincial leaders, the lives of the people here are changing, as electricity and mobile phone signals are gradually “covering” the villages.
Up to now, Viettel Quang Binh has installed and put into operation 8 BTS stations in 2 communes to serve the telecommunication needs of the people as well as the direction and operation of the Party committees, authorities at all levels and armed forces in the area. In 2025, Viettel plans to continue surveying and building stations in the villages with "no" signal in these 2 communes.
“The efforts to promote investment in building BTS stations in border areas, remote areas, and ethnic minority areas by telecommunications enterprises, including the pioneer Viettel Quang Binh, not only serve the information needs of the people, contributing to socio-economic development but also have great significance in performing national defense and security tasks; is an important factor in developing digital government, digital economy, and digital society in this area,” affirmed Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology Pham Thanh Tan.
Lieutenant Colonel Phan Xuan Hong, Director of Viettel Quang Binh said: "As a state-owned enterprise under the Ministry of National Defense, with a business perspective of social responsibility, the unit has covered and served 98.7% of the population in the province. In the coming time, when implementing the arrangement of administrative units on a larger scale, information technology will be even more important in the direction and operation. In the spirit of "when technology moves forward, no one is left behind", Viettel will continue to accompany the province in developing the network, covering remote areas, striving to serve 100% of the population in the area; meeting the tasks of security - defense, economic development, social security as well as ensuring infrastructure, responding to the digital transformation. On the other hand, we will pioneer and continue to invest in 5G coverage in the "capitals" in the province to serve TTLL, especially the digital transformation, creating conditions for services need large bandwidth" .
“Tan Trach commune currently has telephone signals in the commune center and Doong village, but the transmission line is not stable. In Doong village, solar power is used, so the information technology is often interrupted. Managing and processing documents on the system or email in Tan Trach still has many difficulties, greatly affecting the implementation of the goals of Project 06 as well as digital transformation. We hope that the province will pay attention and invest in the power grid system to Doong village and stabilize the telecommunications line in the area so that the commune can develop more,” said Nguyen Van Dai, Secretary of the Tan Trach Commune Party Committee. |
