According to voters in Gia Lai province, National Highway 25 passing through the area still has 6 old bridges, including those built a long time ago, which are now degraded, do not ensure the load capacity of the road, and are having to post signs restricting the load capacity.
Among them is Ia Sol bridge (near Phu Thien market) built in 1975, now degraded, the narrow bridge creates a bottleneck right in the center of Phu Thien town, the traffic volume is very high, there is a potential risk of accidents, traffic safety is not guaranteed, causing traffic jams during rush hour.
Voters in Gia Lai province proposed upgrading and expanding National Highway 25 through the area because many sections and bridges on the route are degraded, posing potential traffic safety risks (illustrative photo).
Some sections of the route are also degraded, especially the section from Ia Ake commune, bordering Phu Thien town to Plei Tang intersection commune. This is the gateway to the district center, with high traffic density and frequent traffic accidents.
From there, voters recommended that the Ministry of Transport pay attention to investing early in upgrading and expanding National Highway 25 to synchronize the scale and effectively develop the exploitation capacity of the route.
Regarding this issue, the Ministry of Transport said that according to the Road Network Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, National Highway 25 is about 182km long, with a scale of a level III road, 2 - 4 lanes.
In Gia Lai province, National Highway 25 is about 112km long, of which about 73km/112km have been invested in upgrading and renovating, reaching the planning scale; the remaining about 39km/112km has the current roadbed width of 6 - 8m, road surface width of 5.5 - 7m.
The Ministry of Transport agrees with the proposal of voters of Gia Lai province on the necessity of investing in upgrading and expanding the remaining sections of National Highway 25 (including 6 old bridges) according to the planning scale to meet the transportation needs and socio-economic development of Gia Lai province.
"However, due to resource difficulties, it is not possible to allocate capital to invest in the route in the period of 2021 - 2025. The Ministry of Transport acknowledges the voters' recommendations and in the process of developing a medium-term public investment plan for the period of 2026-2030, based on the ability to balance resources and the principles of capital allocation according to regulations, the Ministry of Transport will consider reporting to the competent authority to invest in renovating and upgrading National Highway 25 and 6 old bridges on the route as recommended by voters," said the Ministry of Transport.
Recently, the Ministry of Transport has assigned the Vietnam Road Administration to carry out maintenance and repair work in 2022, 2023, and 2024 with a budget of about VND 95.10 billion to ensure safe and convenient operation of the route.
