Mr. Thach Van Bay next to the canal being dredged to serve aquaculture combined with rice cultivation.
Comrade Ngo Thi Le Trinh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoa Tan Commune, Cau Ke District, said: Due to the characteristics of the commune located along the Hau River and having strengths in garden economy, to ensure water sources for production when the riverside sewer systems are closed (saltwater above 01‰), the locality has focused on mobilizing gardeners to donate land to expand and dredge silted internal canals... People are always interested and respond very positively in the implementation of handing over the construction site for dredging internal canals.
In the 2025 internal irrigation plan, Hoa Tan will implement 06 internal canals, with a total length of nearly 04km in the areas of Chong No 1, Chong No 2 and Soc Ruong hamlets. These are canals serving the water supply for the wax coconut growing area and rice production.
Mr. Thach Thien, Chong No 1 Hamlet, Hoa Tan Commune, Cau Ke District said: his family has 0.45ha of coconut garden land, and is very happy to see this canal being dredged and the flow cleared. This area depends on the Tu Dem canal, over 1.7km long and takes water from the Cau Ke River to serve the production of fruit trees in the hamlet. After more than 4 years of dredging, it has now silted up and is in the current dry season, the water source is very depleted, and cannot enter the garden. Now that the locality has invested capital for dredging, people on both sides of the canal will support the ground in gathering soil during the dredging of the canal and fruit trees.
In Dai An commune, Tra Cu district, due to the conditions of the cultivated land areas (rice and aquaculture) adjacent to the coastal area, there is often a lack of water for production during the dry season. The implementation of dredging and clearing of intra-field canals has received very positive response from the people. In the 2025 intra-field irrigation season, Dai An commune implemented 05 projects in Tra Kha and Giong Lon hamlets.
According to aquaculture households in Tra Kha hamlet, Dai An commune, in the dry season, water resources are very scarce, aquaculture areas often lack water and in the rainy season, rice production is often flooded, due to difficult drainage. Currently, this canal is being dredged (nearly 02km long), which will provide water for aquaculture households.
Mr. Thach Van Bay, Tra Kha hamlet, Dai An commune said: his family has about 0.7 hectares of land for aquaculture in the form of orchid farming combined with 1 rice crop; for many years, this area has had a lot of difficulties in production. The family mainly raises orchids, investing an average of 4 - 5 million VND per year for shrimp and crab costs; earning 22 - 25 million VND per year and in the rainy season, rice production, productivity reaches about 5 tons/ha and costs about 1 million VND/ha.
Regarding the plan to dredge intra-field canals in the dry season of 2024 - 2025, localities in the province have registered to dredge 492 projects, over 420km long; 12 tanks installed. Localities with a large number of dredged canal projects are Tieu Can with 116 canals; Chau Thanh with 95 canals and Tra Cu with 94 canals...
Comrade Diep Nhu Binh, Head of the Irrigation and Climate Change Sub-Department (Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tra Vinh): Currently, areas that have finished harvesting the winter-spring rice crop or areas with favorable conditions are focusing on dredging intra-field canals to ensure freshwater storage and pumping into the fields. Localities are also increasing the salvage of water hyacinth to clear the flow and store water.
