Recently, some parents of 11th graders at Thang Long High School (Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi) were upset when the class parent committee proposed that each student pay 800,000 VND to organize a school-wide performance.
According to the announcement, the parents' committee will organize a live show "Spring Offering to the Party" with a duration of 45 minutes in early February 2025. The announcement further stated: "In order for the program to be organized on a large scale with the most reasonable time arrangement for the children to ensure both studying and ensuring good performance in the first semester exam, the parents' committee of the class invited the choreographer and the class officers to plan the program and have a plan to organize for the children to practice gradually to keep up with the school program.
Because the implementation costs are also high, the parents' committee proposes that each child pay an additional amount of 800,000 VND. We, the parents' committee, look forward to the consensus and support of parents in their children's big event.
In addition to the required payment, the parents' committee would like to call on donors to contribute more to support additional funding for water activities, gym rental, etc. This contribution must be made before December 5th."

Most parents objected and said that in the context of economic difficulties, parents are not worried enough about their children going to school, now they have to worry about so many expenses like this, which is really extremely frustrating. Cultural activities, sports, life skills... are good for students, but just for a 45-minute program at the school level, each class has to spend tens of millions of dong, which is too much.
It is known that this class has nearly 50 students. If the exact amount of 800,000 VND/student is collected, there will be about 40 million VND. Not to mention, some parents will contribute and support more.
On the afternoon of December 5, Mr. Le Trung Tin, Principal of Thang Long High School, said that in addition to the study plan, the school will have a monthly program for classes to perform art performances based on a theme. The preparation and performance of the performances will depend on the classes, the school will not interfere. "We only give the theme for each month and require 100% of the students to participate, while the content and form of performance will be left to the students' creativity," Mr. Tin said, adding that he will work with the classes to prevent the above situation from happening again.
The principal added that the school's purpose is to create a cultural playground, encourage students from all over the school to participate, increase connections, help students be bold in group activities and have the opportunity to express themselves.
Right from the beginning of the school year, the school has required the program to be practical and economical. The performances must be self-directed and creative by the students, limiting the hiring of directors and fancy costumes, and encouraging the wearing of school uniforms. However, in reality, there are still some parents who want to invest in their children's performances to leave an impression.
