On December 16, many parents whose children study at Bui Thi Xuan Primary School (Lien Chieu District, Da Nang City) were upset when students of this school had to take off their warm coats and sit in the middle of the yard to attend a thematic activity.

"Teachers wear warm clothes and scarves, you have to take off your warm clothes"

Ms. V., a parent whose child is in 5th grade at this school, was upset: "This morning, while the weather was very cold, less than 20 degrees, the teachers were still wearing warm clothes and scarves, but the children had to take off their warm clothes and only wear uniforms.

This activity may be quite important to the school, to make it look good, but we cannot ignore the children's health like that."

Parents captured footage from the live stream showing students sitting in the middle of the yard, shivering from the cold.

Parents also shared the incident on social networks, attracting attention and comments from the online community.

What does the school say?

Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lich, head of the Department of Education and Training of Lien Chieu district, said he had received feedback from parents about the incident that occurred at Bui Thi Xuan Primary School.

Mr. Lich said he had asked the school to report the incident. According to the school's explanation, on the morning of December 16, the school organized a seminar on "I love my homeland's sea and islands" in the schoolyard for all students.

Because in the program of the seminar there is a school-wide performance with the song "I sing about the distant island", students need to wear uniforms to perform together, creating uniformity and formality.

"At 7:30 a.m., when the performance took place, the weather was cold, but the school yard was filled with more than 1,725 students. They were participating in activities, so their body temperatures rose. Many students took off their jackets and held them in their hands because they couldn't stand the heat.

Realizing that the atmosphere was not too cold, the activities had been carefully planned by the school, and were also an opportunity to help students gain more experience and better grasp knowledge about the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland's sea and islands, the school's board of directors asked teachers to carefully check each student.

When the teachers saw that the students were ready to perform, they asked them to take off their outerwear to perform. The performance only lasted about 5-7 minutes.

Realizing the need to speed up the time to ensure the health of the students and not affect the program, the organizers shortened the performance. After that, the students were asked to put on their coats again and continue with other activities," explained the leader of Bui Thi Xuan Primary School.

Mr. Lich said: "After a comprehensive review of the incident and the school's report, it is found that parents' comments are necessary to ensure safety during teaching and learning activities. The Department has also requested the school's board of directors to meet, re-evaluate and draw profound lessons."
