Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) announced on the afternoon of July 25 that the match between Viettel FC and Hong Linh Ha Tinh in round 3 of phase 2 of V-League 2023 taking place at 7:15 p.m. on July 27 will officially apply VAR (video assistant referee) technology.

To prepare for the application of VAR technology in an official match, VPF, the V-League Organizing Committee, and the Referee Committee have held working sessions to disseminate information related to the players and coaching staff of Viettel FC and Hong Linh Ha Tinh. In addition, Hang Day Stadium, the venue for the match, has also completed the inspection steps according to the regulations of the World Football Federation (FIFA), the work related to measuring the field, integrating data about Hang Day Stadium into the virtual offside line system using artificial intelligence has also been completed.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Ngoc, General Director of VPF, Head of the Organizing Committee of V-League 2023 said: “In addition to disseminating all content related to the organization, laws, and regulations of a match with VAR for the two teams, we also have working sessions with television partners and technical suppliers so that the requirements for a match with VAR as prescribed by FIFA are fully met. With careful preparation, VPF hopes that the first match applying VAR in the V-League will achieve positive results, marking a historical milestone in the development of Vietnamese professional football”.

The referee team that will officiate the match between Viettel FC and Hong Linh Ha Tinh includes: Main referee Ngo Duy Lan; two assistants Nguyen Trung Hau and Pham Hoai Tam; fourth referee Nguyen Ngoc Chau; VAR referee Mai Xuan Hung, and VAR assistant Duong Huu Phuc. All six referees have attended the VAR referee training course and passed the FIFA assessment tests; referee supervisor Vo Minh Tri is also a lecturer in this VAR referee course.

It is known that the entire process of preparing and operating a match with VAR will be recorded and reported to FIFA. FIFA will monitor this entire process for the next 3 years.
