Looking back at history and looking to the future with new aspirations for the era of national growth, the Party Committee, government and people of Quang Nam are even more proud, more confident, more determined, and take more drastic actions to break through and accelerate on the journey ahead!
The name “Quang Nam” has a history of formation and development of more than 550 years, since King Le Thanh Tong established Quang Nam as a province in 1471. Along with its geographical location, rich resources and products, through many centuries of ups and downs and changes of history, the land and people of Quang have “positioned” for themselves unique cultural, historical and traditional values, especially in the general traditional cultural flow of the Vietnamese people. Those values have been further crystallized, nurtured and developed through the revolutionary journey of the homeland over the past nearly one hundred years, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Milestones and achievements
Quang Nam, the 95-year journey since the founding of the Provincial Party Committee and 50 years after the liberation of the homeland, are special periods, with many most significant marks, feats and achievements throughout the history of Quang Nam. First of all, it must be mentioned that the birth of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee, on March 28, 1930 - the second provincial party committee in the country (after the Hanoi City Party Committee), since the historical milestone of February 3, 1930 - the founding day of the Communist Party of Vietnam. From here, a new page of history opened for the homeland of Quang Nam - the most heroic and glorious page of history of Quang land.
From a Party Committee with only 80 members at the end of 1930, over time, the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee has continuously grown in strength; experienced and matured in intelligence, mettle, and will; leadership capacity and fighting strength have been constantly improved. By the end of 2024, the entire Party Committee had 1,119 grassroots Party organizations with 73,495 Party members. In every stage of the revolution, the Provincial Party Committee has always been steadfast in its leadership role and has been the center of solidarity, gathering, and mobilizing the combined strength of the army and people of the entire province; absolutely loyal to the Party's ideal goals; not afraid of hardships and sacrifices; relying on the People, closely following reality, being flexible, creative, dynamic, and sharp in leadership and direction, contributing decisively to the glorious feats and glorious achievements of the heroic Quang Nam land.
During the resistance war against the French colonialists, the movement for “democracy and people’s livelihood” in the years 1936-1939, under the leadership of the Provincial Party Committee, developed vigorously, throughout all regions. History continued to “record” Quang Nam, with the miracle of being one of the 5 localities that gained power the earliest in the country in the autumn of the historic August Revolution in 1945!
In the second resistance war against the French, with the creative and flexible application of the Central Party's line of all-people, comprehensive, long-term resistance, relying mainly on one's own strength, the army and people of Quang Nam completely defeated the French colonialists' plan of "fighting quickly, winning quickly", destroying many of the enemy's sinister plots and the highest point was the victory at Bo Bo - a "Dien Bien Phu" in Quang Nam, contributing to bringing the Vietnamese people's resistance war against the French colonialists to final victory.
With a tradition of ardent patriotism and a steadfast, indomitable spirit, after more than 20 years of fighting against the US to save the country, Quang Nam has been "brave and resilient" with brilliant marks and achievements. That was the victory of Nui Thanh - the first battle to destroy the US (May 26, 1965) and then the victories of Doc commune (March 27, 1971), the victories of Thuong Duc, Dong Duong, Cam Doi, Nong Son - Trung Phuoc, ... leading to the complete liberation of Quang Nam homeland on the historic March 24, 1975.
After the country's reunification, Quang Nam quickly carried out the reconstruction and development of its homeland, with new movements and slogans of action. The strong mark in the early period after the liberation of the homeland was tens of thousands of hectares of land reclaimed and restored for production; large irrigation and hydroelectric works such as Phu Ninh and Khe Tan were quickly built; famous cooperatives nationwide such as Dai Phuoc, Dien Tho, etc.
It can be affirmed that, throughout the journey of the past 50 years, the Party Committee, government and people of Quang Nam have always persevered in overcoming difficulties, united in mind and heart, strongly promoted the tradition of patriotism and revolution, and the unique cultural identity of Quang Nam; mobilized human and material resources, and made use of all resources to build and develop the homeland, firmly ensuring national defense, security and social order and safety, and protecting the peaceful life of the people in all stages of development of the province.
From a predominantly agricultural economy with fragmented and backward agricultural production, more than 50% of households living in poverty; industry and tourism were almost insignificant; budget revenue was only over 150 billion VND in the first year of re-establishing the province (1997), Quang Nam has continuously risen with impressive developments.
Since 2017, Quang Nam has officially transferred domestic revenue to the Central Government; in 2024, the total economic revenue in the area reached more than 27,600 billion VND (217 times higher than in 1997), the economic scale was more than 129 trillion VND, and the average income per capita was more than 84 million VND. The economic structure has shifted strongly towards industry and services. People's lives have been constantly improved, the poverty rate has decreased rapidly, by the end of 2024 it was only 4.56%. The whole province has 149/193 communes recognized as meeting new rural standards, 5 district-level units meeting new rural standards. The appearance of urban, rural, mountainous, island and border areas has completely changed compared to the early days of the homeland's liberation.
Up to now, there has been Chu Lai Open Economic Zone with the largest automobile production and assembly center in the country; Chu Lai airport is planned to build a 4F international airport. The whole province has 14 industrial parks and more than 50 industrial clusters in operation, attracting many large investors. Infrastructure, especially transport infrastructure, has developed synchronously, including airports, seaports, railways, and inter-regional roads. Tourism and services have developed rapidly, Hoi An has become one of the leading tourist centers in the country and has a prominent destination brand on the world tourism map.
Along with economic development, education - training, health care and public health care have also achieved many outstanding achievements. Hundreds of tangible and intangible cultural heritages have been preserved, restored and promoted. Quang Nam currently has 2 World Cultural Heritages: Hoi An Ancient Town and My Son Sanctuary, and Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve.
New aspirations, new actions!
In the first months of 2025, along with the serious and drastic implementation of the revolution in streamlining the organization and apparatus of the political system according to the Party's policy, the socio-economic situation of Quang Nam continued to improve. The province successfully organized a conference to deploy the plan to implement the provincial planning, attracting more investment projects with registered capital of tens of thousands of billions of VND; focusing on directing the implementation of the Conclusion Notice No. 40/TB-VPCP dated February 8, 2025 of the Government Office on the Prime Minister's Conclusion at the working session with the leaders of Quang Nam province; promoting the implementation of the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for poor households; promulgating the Program and plan to implement Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation; Promote disbursement of investment capital and support businesses to ensure the target of double-digit economic growth by 2025, creating momentum for the following years.
The new era of development - the era of national development, under the leadership of the Party, is the aspiration, belief and also the command for action of the entire Party, the entire army and the entire people of the country. Quang Nam must definitely accompany the country, rise stronger in the new period, strive to become a well-off province of the country by 2030 as the set goal.
To realize that development goal, in the coming time, in addition to continuing to seriously implement the Party's policy on streamlining the organization of the political system and rearranging the administrative apparatus at all levels, Quang Nam is determined to synchronously deploy the contents of the Plan to implement the Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister. Focus on completing the project to adjust the general planning of Chu Lai Open Economic Zone, urban planning, regional planning, and detailed planning of functional subdivisions. At the same time, actively prepare all aspects to soon start construction of Chu Lai International Airport, Cua Lo channel project and logistics center, high-tech agricultural zone; projects to upgrade national highways 14D, 14E, 14B; industrial centers for deep processing of silicate products, and pharmaceutical industry centers with Ngoc Linh ginseng as the main crop. Promote attraction and call for domestic and foreign enterprises to invest in Quang Nam; associated with creating the most favorable environment for enterprises to register for investment and develop production and business. Quang Nam is determined to do its best to truly be a good land for domestic and foreign investors.
Along with that, Quang Nam continues to promote the implementation of 3 strategic breakthrough tasks according to the Resolution of the 22nd Provincial Party Congress; at the same time, study and adjust according to the Central's orientation and the requirements for developing Quang Nam in accordance with the viewpoints and goals of the Provincial Planning. In particular, effectively implement the Program of the Provincial Party Standing Committee to implement Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation; consider this as the top important breakthrough, the main driving force to rapidly develop modern productive forces, perfect production relations, innovate governance methods, develop socio-economy, bring Quang Nam to develop quickly, strongly and firmly.
