Celebrating the complete liberation of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai provinces

These days, in the two provinces of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai, many meaningful activities have taken place to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the complete liberation of the two provinces of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai (March 24, 1975 - March 24, 2025).

Speedy liberation of the homeland

According to the history of the Party Committee of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai provinces, the successive victories of our army and people across the Southern battlefields in late 1974 and early 1975 caused the puppet army and government to collapse completely, our position and strength increased many times, creating a strategic opportunity for the Party Central Committee to decide to liberate the South in 1975.

In Quang Nam during this period, there were 72 working teams, 1,000 bases in enemy territory with 221 party members. In Quang Da, there were 629 working teams, Da Nang alone had 348 bases, 142 party members in 21 party cells, 297 commando and self-defense team members, in addition, there were 31 "party cells 2" of rural communes in Dien Ban and Hoa Vang operating in the city.

Our organizations have been thoroughly informed of the situation and tasks, and have developed plans to coordinate attacks on the enemy by military, political and military means; grasped and created opportunities to widely gather all classes of people to be ready to rise up and seize power. Action Committees in each neighborhood, enterprise, port, factory... have been established.

At 0:30 on March 10, 1975, the 2nd Infantry Division (with the 52nd Brigade in reserve), the 10th Special Forces Battalion, along with local troops supported by the 572nd and 368th Artillery Regiments and the 573rd Anti-Aircraft Regiment, successively captured the targets of Suoi Da, Hill 211, Tien Phuoc District Sub-Region, and surrounded Hau Duc District Sub-Region (Phuoc Lam). By 16:00 on March 10, 1975, our troops had completely controlled the above areas and targets.

On the night of March 14, 1975, a part of the province's armed forces used strong firepower to attack the security stronghold on Doi 59 to clear a corridor to move troops east to support the uprising masses to destroy evil, break the shackles, fight the enemy counterattacks in Binh Nam, Binh Giang, Binh Trieu, Binh Duong, Ky Anh (north of Tam Ky), and expand the liberated area. The military service suffered heavy defeats. By March 23, 1975, all the enemy's headquarters in Quang Tin were paralyzed. At exactly 10:30 a.m. on March 24, 1975, Tam Ky town was completely liberated.

Meanwhile, in Quang Ngai, on the night of March 8, 1975, the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee directed the provincial and district armed forces to attack, destroy and wear down a part of the enemy's forces, reclaim the eastern areas of Duc Pho and eastern Mo Duc, forming a large liberation corridor from Sa Huynh gate to near Co Luy gate.

Faced with the siege and rapid, relentless attacks from many directions by the revolutionary armed and paramilitary forces, on the night of March 16 to the morning of March 17, 1975, the enemy in Son Ha panicked and fled, 12,000 people escaped the enemy's grip. Son Ha district was completely liberated. On March 18, 1975, the enemy in Tra Bong also hastily fled, the western part of Quang Ngai was completely cleared of the enemy. By March 18, 1975, we liberated Binh Chuong and Binh My communes. The western area of ​​Binh Son was completely liberated. All the mountainous districts, a part of the communes and villages of the plains districts were liberated...

On March 21, 1975, the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee issued a directive requiring the army and people in the province, Party committees at all levels, and armed forces units to immediately destroy the puppet government and political forces, to win over the people, to take control of large areas including towns and townships, and to immediately organize and build revolutionary organizations, governments, and local armed forces wherever the uprising occurs; to quickly disseminate to cadres, soldiers, and people our resolute policy of definitely liberating and overthrowing the enemy. On March 23, 1975, the Provincial Party Committee issued a directive to step up attacks and uprisings throughout the province, overthrow all enemies, liberate all rural areas, liberate towns and townships, seize all government power into the hands of the people, and complete the historic task of liberating the entire province.

Under the strength of our army and people, with many coordinated attacks, surrounded and approached the enemy at the checkpoints, the enemy panicked, fled, was captured alive or surrendered and handed over weapons. For example, Regiment 94, together with the army and people of Son Tinh and Binh Son districts, fought, killed and captured more than 4,000 enemy soldiers, destroyed and damaged 206 motor vehicles of various types, captured 50 others along with tens of thousands of tons of weapons, ammunition and war vehicles on a stretch of road more than 7 km long.

From March 23 to 24, 1975, Duc Pho, Mo Duc, Tu Nghia districts, and then Ly Son Island were completely liberated. The flag of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam fluttered on the roof of the Provincial Town Hall. All localities in the province, from the highlands to the coast, from the south to the north, were covered with flags. The people joyfully welcomed the revolutionary soldiers back with indescribable joy, welcoming the victory day, welcoming the complete liberation of their homeland. On March 30, 1975, the Provincial Party Committee, the Revolutionary People's Committee, the National Liberation Front Committee of Quang Ngai province and the departments, branches and organizations of the province returned to work in Quang Ngai town.

Meaningful and proud celebration

The liberation of the two provinces above marked a brilliant milestone in the history of the revolutionary struggle of the homeland and the country. The 50th anniversary of the complete liberation of the two provinces of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai is an occasion to arouse the spirit of "boldness, determination, steadfastness, flexibility, timeliness, seizing opportunities and creating opportunities to win great victories" and to be proud of the achievements since the liberation day until now.

These days, many meaningful activities have taken place in the homeland of the two provinces, such as the 80th Anniversary of Ba To Uprising (March 11, 1945 - March 11, 2025) and the 50th Anniversary of Quang Ngai Province Liberation Day with the theme "Quang Ngai - Heroic Motherland". Or on the evening of March 23, 2025, Quang Ngai City organized an art program to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Quang Ngai Town Liberation Day, Quang Ngai Province, with the theme "Quang Ngai City - Ancient Spirit, New Opportunities".

In Quang Nam tonight (March 24), at 24/3 Square, Tam Ky City, the 50th Anniversary of Quang Nam Province Liberation Day (March 24, 1975 - March 24, 2025) and the 95th Anniversary of the Provincial Party Committee's Founding Day (March 28, 1930 - March 28, 2025) will be held. This is an occasion to review the glorious revolutionary tradition of the Party Committee and People of Quang Nam Province; express deep gratitude to the generations who sacrificed for the independence and unification of the Fatherland; and at the same time introduce the great achievements that the Party Committee and People of Quang Nam have achieved after 50 years of liberation.

The key activities taking place today (March 24) such as the incense offering ceremony at the provincial martyrs cemetery and the Vietnamese Heroic Mother Monument, the meeting with delegates, the commemoration ceremony at 24/3 Square (Tam Ky City)... have been carefully planned and implemented. Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Dung has carefully instructed that departments, branches and localities must continue to coordinate closely to ensure the success of tonight's ceremony.
