On the afternoon of November 20, in Hanoi, the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Parliamentarians' Group held its 4th meeting.
Chairing and speaking at the meeting, Politburo member, Permanent member of the Secretariat Truong Thi Mai, Head of the Central Organization Committee, President of the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Parliamentarians' Group affirmed that the relationship between the two countries is at its best stage in history since the establishment of diplomatic relations (in 1973) with high political trust.
The two sides closely coordinated to implement the agreements reached at the online talks in early 2023 between General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Kishida Fumio on creating breakthroughs and bringing the relationship to new heights; actively coordinated to organize many high-level activities and between localities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations.
Highly appreciating the results of the Group's activities since the third meeting, the Chairman of the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Parliamentarians' Group pointed out that the most prominent activities were delegation exchanges, exchanges, and contacts on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, activities within the framework of the visit of the President of the Japanese House of Councilors; coordinating the organization of many cultural programs and activities, and people-to-people exchanges in rich and diverse forms in both Japan and Vietnam.
Thereby, once again affirming the important bridging role in building relations between the leaders of the two countries, parliamentarians and the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Parliamentarians' Group, the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians' Alliance.
The Group Chairman suggested that the Group Standing Committee receive opinions and information contributions from members, complete the 2023 activity report and work direction for 2024. Group members continue to promote tradition, inherit the success of the Group in previous terms, actively and proactively deploy and participate in the activities of the Group, agencies and localities where each member is working, in cooperation with Japanese partners, actively promote further the extensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Earlier, reporting at the meeting, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee Le Thu Ha, Vice President of the Group, said that Vietnam-Japan relations are in their best period, developing strongly and comprehensively in all areas with high political trust, constantly upgrading the levels of relations; currently a deep strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia.
High-level exchanges and contacts at all levels and channels are taking place actively. Senior leaders of the two countries maintain regular visits and contacts at international and regional forums. Local cooperation and people-to-people exchanges are increasingly strengthened...
Notably, 2023 marks an important milestone of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The two sides will closely coordinate to implement the agreement reached at the online meeting earlier this year between General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Kishida Fumio on creating a breakthrough and bringing the relationship to new heights.
Along with the good development of the extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia between the two countries, cooperation between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Japanese Parliament has been continuously strengthened and developed in recent times.
At multilateral parliamentary forums, the two sides shared similar views on building and maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for development in the Asia-Pacific region; regularly supported each other in their views on handling maritime and aviation security issues in the region as well as on the East Sea issue; promoted parliamentary exchanges within the framework of friendship parliamentary groups, female parliamentarians and young parliamentarians of the two countries.
In the last six months of 2023, the Group continued to be one of the most active and effective friendship parliamentary groups with many high-level contacts in diverse and rich forms, demonstrating the uniqueness of parliamentary diplomacy, flexibility and adaptability. The activities contributed to promoting multifaceted cooperation between the two countries in various fields; at the same time, through exchanges and contacts, Vietnam sought support from Japan on issues of concern.
The Group's activities are closely coordinated and combined between the Party's foreign affairs agencies, State diplomacy and people's diplomacy with the participation of representatives of foreign affairs focal agencies. The Group members always pay attention, spend time contributing ideas and actively participating in the activities; they are important factors contributing to the overall success in implementing the action plan.
In 2024, the Group will continue to coordinate with relevant agencies of the two countries to organize activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, commensurate with and creating a mark for the extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia; promote and coordinate the organization of high-level delegation exchanges between the two countries and the two National Assemblies, and enhance parliamentary exchanges.
The group continues to coordinate with the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians' Union and Japanese parliamentarians to promote cooperation between the two countries in areas such as trade, investment, health, education, agriculture and forestry, etc.; promote people-to-people exchange and local cooperation; strengthen connections and comprehensive cooperation between localities and Japanese enterprises with Vietnamese parties.
At the meeting, members listened to Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu inform about the situation of Vietnam-Japan relations; Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Yamada Takio assessed the cooperative relationship between the two countries in general and the two legislative bodies in particular in recent times.
Delegates gave their opinions on the Group's performance in the last 6 months of the year, focusing on discussing the direction and plan of activities in 2024.
