On March 20, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs chaired and coordinated with the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations to organize a meeting between Vietnamese and Chinese students of all periods.
Speaking at the meeting, General Secretary To Lam expressed his emotion when listening to the elders, Chinese friendship figures and students from both countries sharing and recalling the profound memories and good feelings during their time studying and working in China and Vietnam; at the same time, he also expressed his trust and expectation for a bright future for the development of the relationship between the two Parties, the two countries and the two peoples.
The General Secretary emphasized: Vietnam and China are two neighboring countries with “mountains and rivers connected together”, with a long-standing tradition of friendship, which has been summarized very subtly and deeply by both peoples such as “Long-time neighbors become relatives” or “Good neighbors are treasures”, “neighbors help each other in times of need”. Looking back at the historical revolutionary journey between the two countries, we remember, are grateful, extremely proud and always respect the great contributions of generations of leaders of the two Parties and two countries, directly President Ho Chi Minh and Chairman Mao Zedong who laid the foundation for “the close relationship between Vietnam and China as both comrades and brothers” and has been diligently cultivated by generations of leaders of the two Parties and two countries.
The General Secretary recalled: 75 years ago, on January 18, 1950, the People's Republic of China was the first country in the world to establish diplomatic relations with the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam). Vietnam was the first Southeast Asian country to establish diplomatic relations with China. This important event opened a new era for the friendly relations between the two socialist neighbors. Throughout the heroic revolutionary journey, the two Parties, two countries and two peoples have always given each other great, effective, sincere and righteous help and support.
China has welcomed many Vietnamese cadres, students and pupils to study and research and created the best conditions for studying and living, typically Vietnamese schools in Nanning and Guilin (Guangxi). From that favorable environment, many generations of Vietnamese intellectuals have grown up, many of whom have become high-ranking leaders of the Party and State, leading experts in many fields, military and police generals, famous artists and writers, making many important contributions to the Vietnamese revolutionary cause and the friendship between the two countries.
According to the General Secretary, over the past 75 years, the world and regional situation has undergone many profound changes, but a common perception has not changed: the stable, long-term sustainable development of the relationship between the two Parties and two countries is the earnest desire and fundamental interest of the two peoples, of great significance to the revolutionary and development cause in each country, in line with the great trend of the times of peace and cooperation for prosperous development.
“Over the past years, Vietnam-China relations have made many remarkable developments, demonstrated by the agreement of the top leaders of the two Parties and two countries to elevate bilateral relations and maintain regular strategic exchanges to guide bilateral cooperation. The two countries have implemented dozens of diverse exchange and cooperation mechanisms at all levels and in all sectors. Defense and security cooperation has truly played an important role as a pillar. Bilateral trade turnover has grown rapidly, with China leading in the number of new investment projects in Vietnam. People-to-people exchanges, local cooperation, culture, education, and tourism have become increasingly vibrant and are bright spots in the relationship,” the General Secretary emphasized.
The General Secretary also affirmed: The young generation has always received special attention and expectations from the leaders of the two Parties and two countries as a force with the aspiration to follow in the footsteps of previous generations, inherit the tradition of friendship, and bring strong vitality and a bright future to the Vietnam-China relationship. In a letter to the youth and children nationwide, beloved President Ho Chi Minh once wrote: "A year begins in spring, a life begins in youth, youth is the spring of society". Chinese comrades have a very good saying: "Relations between countries are based on the closeness of the people, the closeness of the people is in the heart beating together". Reality shows that the affection of the people of the two countries is inspired and maintained by the young generation.
Currently, the number of Vietnamese students studying in China has reached a record high of nearly 24,000 students (double the number of the previous 5 years) and more than 2,000 Chinese students are studying in Vietnam. In addition, many youth exchange activities are regularly organized, such as Vietnam - China Youth Friendship Meeting, youth cooperation forums, and student summer camps.
The world is entering a new phase with epochal changes. Peace, cooperation and development are still the aspirations of all countries, but conflicts and traditional and non-traditional security challenges are evolving in a complex manner. In that context, the General Secretary said that we are pleased to witness the positive and comprehensive development of the cooperative relationship between the two countries. For Vietnam, this is a particularly important starting point to enter a new era of national development, for peace, independence, democracy, wealth, prosperity, civilization, happiness, and steady progress towards socialism. China, under the leadership of General Secretary and President Xi Jinping, has entered a new era, achieved many great achievements, and laid a solid foundation for comprehensively building a modern socialist power, striving to achieve the second 100-year goal. Therefore, the continuous deepening of the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and the promotion of the building of a “Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future of Strategic Significance” entering a new era of development are of great significance to the development of each country and to peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world. This is an honorable responsibility, requiring determination and goodwill from both sides. In which, the younger generation plays a pivotal role.
Sharing some thoughts, the General Secretary said that the young generation of the two countries needs to raise their awareness of the historical depth, important significance and strategic height of the relationship between the two Parties and the two countries. The youth of the two countries need to make efforts to study, practice, and constantly strive to master science and technology to make practical and creative contributions to the industrialization, modernization and development of new productive forces of each country, contributing to consolidating the material foundation of the relationship between the two countries.
In addition, the agencies and organizations of the two countries continue to closely follow the high-level common awareness on strengthening and innovating the propaganda and education work for the young generation of the two countries about the traditional friendship between the two Parties and the two countries and the development achievements of each country, thereby enhancing the pride and confidence of the youth. The educational and training agencies of the two countries will jointly promote the good implementation of signed agreements, expand and deepen more practical forms of exchange and cooperation in culture, education, training and research. "I wish the relationship between the two Parties and the two countries will continue to develop stably, strongly and increasingly go into depth," the General Secretary stated.
