The General Secretary highly appreciated Mr. Sugi Ryotaro's positive contributions to the Vietnam-Japan friendship over the past 30 years through laying the foundation for Japanese language training in Vietnam.

On the afternoon of March 20, in Hanoi, General Secretary To Lam received former Vietnam-Japan Special Ambassador Sugi Ryotaro.

At the reception, the General Secretary highly appreciated the Vietnam-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership continuing to develop substantially and effectively.

Expressing his pleasure at meeting again with former Vietnam-Japan Special Ambassador Sugi Ryotaro, a close friend of the Vietnamese people, the General Secretary highly appreciated and sincerely thanked Mr. Sugi Ryotaro for his positive contributions to the Vietnam-Japan friendship over the past 30 years through laying the foundation for Japanese language training in Vietnam; promoting cultural cooperation, organizing large-scale art exchange programs; promoting the improvement of the environment and policies for foreign workers and interns, including Vietnam; and supporting capacity building for many Vietnamese ministries and sectors.

Expressing his gratitude to the General Secretary for taking the time to receive him, former Vietnam-Japan Special Ambassador Sugi Ryotaro informed about the activities implemented in Vietnam over the past 30 years and recently, including support for improving school facilities, screening, and preventing hepatitis in Yen Bai province.

Sharing some ideas for the coming time, former Vietnam-Japan Special Ambassador Sugi Ryotaro hopes to establish a symphony orchestra for the blind in Vietnam; promote exchanges and learn from Japan's experience in promoting and developing tourism, thereby further promoting Japanese tourists to Vietnam; promote brand building and promote regional specialties of Vietnam in Japan such as tea products...

The General Secretary appreciated the generosity of former Vietnam-Japan Special Ambassador Sugi Ryotaro towards humanitarian support activities in Vietnam in recent times, especially his calling for, supporting and using his personal money to donate a total of nearly 20 million USD to help overcome the consequences of natural disasters over the past many years as well as adopting more than 200 disadvantaged Vietnamese children.

Emphasizing efforts to streamline the apparatus, promote improvement of facilities, and enhance the quality of healthcare and education in Vietnam, the General Secretary also asked former Vietnam-Japan Special Ambassador Sugi Ryotaro to continue to pay attention and make active contributions to a number of areas such as: implementing humanitarian activities in healthcare and education in remote areas of Vietnam; supporting Vietnam in promoting its tourism image through media channels in Japan; continuing traditional cultural exchange programs; supporting and assisting the Vietnamese community in Japan.../.
