Poet Ung Binh and Hue cultural heritage
Poet Ung Binh Thuc Gia Thi left to modern Vietnamese literature a huge treasure of poetry, with nearly 2,000 poems in the national language and Chinese characters. He is also known as a talented playwright, with great contributions to Hue culture and especially to the art of Hue singing...
With a liberal soul, generous and elegant character, and the harmony between man and nature, Ung Binh Thuc Gia Thi brought the art of Ca Hue to a new height. The Ca Hue songs that he composed were approached and performed by generations of Hue artists and became symbols of traditional art through the ages.
In 2019, the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue Province (now Hue City) decided to rank the historical relic commemorating the famous person Ung Binh in Chau Huong Vien as a provincial relic and adjusted the management decentralization of this relic to the Museum of History. By early 2023, the Chau Huong Vien relic project was being renovated and preserved with a budget of more than 10 billion VND.
Poet Vo Que, Head of the Chamber Music Club of Hue, shared: After the Chau Huong Vien relic was restored, we, the artists and those who love Hue Music were extremely happy.
However, there needs to be solutions and plans to promote the value of the relic and recreate the cultural space here. This requires the participation of traditional art forces, from the Hue Singing Clubs to the Hue Opera and Drama Theater, and the Hue Royal Traditional Art Theater.
“Mr. Ung Binh’s legacy is not only Ca Hue but also many good plays, including the play Lo Dich which was once performed in Germany. The presence of artists from the Hue Royal Traditional Arts Theatre will help spread Ung Binh’s plays and excerpts. From Ca Hue chamber music, Hue Opera was formed, so there should also be the participation of artists from the Hue Opera Theatre.
We, the Ca Hue Chamber Music Club, are always ready to participate in performance activities to revive the space of Chau Huong Vien", poet Vo Que expressed.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Loc, Director of Hue City History Museum said: The preservation and promotion of the historical relic commemorating the famous person Ung Binh in Chau Huong Vien always receives special attention from the Party Committee, government and people of Hue City, along with the direct guidance of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The Chau Huong Vien relic completed its restoration and renovation work in June 2024, marking an important step in the preservation and promotion of tangible and intangible cultural heritage values associated with the famous person Ung Binh Thuc Gia Thi.
In the coming time, the Hue City History Museum will continue to coordinate with the Union of City Literature and Arts Associations and the Hue Chamber Music Club to organize regular poetry activities. This will be an opportunity for the old soul mates to revive, contributing to the restoration of a famous poetry address in the past.
At the same time, the Museum will coordinate with relevant departments and agencies to collect documents, artifacts and works of Ung Binh Thuc Gia Thi, in order to build a gallery to introduce historical documents related to Ca Hue heritage.
Part of the space of Chau Huong Vien relic will also be used to organize performances of chamber music, Hue opera and Hue poetry.
These programs will create opportunities for artists and Ca Hue lovers to demonstrate their talents, teach Ca Hue performing skills to the younger generation, and contribute to preserving and promoting the value of national intangible cultural heritage.
