Inside the passenger terminal, Terminal T3 of Tan Son Nhat airport, the final stages are being rushed to completion.
With the spirit of working in "3 shifts, 4 shifts", since before Tet until now, about 1,200 engineers, supervisors, and workers have been working day and night at the construction site of Terminal T3 at Tan Son Nhat airport.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Toan, Director of the T3 Terminal Project Management Board, said that all management teams and workers are working together, urgently completing the interior and installing equipment to strive to complete the T3 terminal project on April 30 this year, following the direction of the Prime Minister.
At the Passenger Terminal (1 ground floor, 4 upper floors), one of the important items of the whole project, workers are rushing to speed up construction with an extremely urgent working atmosphere to complete the remaining stages.
According to the investor's assessment, the construction progress of T3 terminal items is currently at a high level, such as: 100% completed architectural finishing; 7,500 tons/7,500 tons of steel roof structure completed; 45,000/45,000 m2 of Kalzip aluminum roof construction...
Along with that, the expanded aircraft parking area has been 100% completed and is undergoing acceptance procedures for operation. Mr. Le Khac Hong - Head of the T3 Terminal Project Management Board of Tan Son Nhat Airport said: To complete the project on schedule requires high determination from the leaders of the contractors, flexibility in solving financial difficulties, human resources and material resources, which are the biggest challenges.
However, these difficulties have been resolved, striving to complete the entire project by March 31, two months ahead of schedule, and organize acceptance around mid-April. Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) and contractors are striving to complete the entire T3 terminal project for operation and put into operation in time for April 30, 2025.
The project to build the T3 passenger terminal of Tan Son Nhat International Airport, starting in December 2022, includes 4 main items: passenger terminal, high-rise parking lot combined with non-aviation services, overpass system in front of the terminal and aircraft parking lot.
The total investment of the project is 10,990 billion VND. In particular, the passenger terminal is designed into 2 separate departure and arrival levels, with 89 traditional aviation check-in counters, 20 automatic bagdrop counters and 42 check-in kiosks, 26 boarding gates, 25 security control gates for departing passengers... When completed, Terminal T3 will meet the capacity of more than 20 million passengers/year, serving 7,000 passengers/peak hour, contributing to reducing pressure on the overloaded Terminal T1.
Along with the T3 terminal project, the city has invested in building the Tran Quoc Hoan-Cong Hoa connecting road, and is speeding up the project to complete it in March, thereby contributing to solving the congestion at the gateway to Tan Son Nhat airport as well as opening more traffic branches for vehicles entering and exiting T3 terminal in a new direction.
According to the City Traffic Construction Investment Management Board (investor), as of February, 4/5 packages of the project have been completed. The last package, Construction 13 - construction from Hoang Hoa Tham Street to Truong Chinh Street, has been slow in progress but has just been handed over the remaining site by Tan Binh District, so it is being worked on day and night, thereby ensuring the completion of the construction progress to serve the synchronous connection and exploitation of Terminal T3 of Tan Son Nhat Airport according to the direction of the Prime Minister.
Previously, the section from Thang Long-Phan Thuc Duyen intersection to Road 18E, which is more than 600m long and about 500m from Route 18E leading to Cong Hoa Street (Package No. 10) was opened to traffic in early November 2024. The operation of these two packages has contributed to reducing congestion at Lang Cha Ca roundabout and improving access to Tan Son Nhat airport area.
Mr. Luong Minh Phuc, Director of the Traffic Construction Investment Management Board, emphasized: "The remaining sections of the Tran Quoc Hoan-Cong Hoa connecting road construction project will be completed by the end of March, before the T3 terminal officially operates, thereby creating traffic capacity for the entire area around the airport to be smooth."
Construction started at the end of 2022, the Tran Quoc Hoan-Cong Hoa connecting road in Tan Binh district is more than 4 km long, with a total investment of more than 4,800 billion VND. The main road is 25 to 48 m wide, including 6 lanes, and two connecting roads are 3 to 4 lanes wide. On the route, there is an overpass in front of T3 terminal and two underpasses at the major intersections of Tran Quoc Hoan-Phan Thuc Duyen and Truong Chinh-Tan Ky Tan Quy. Hoang Hoa Tham Street in the project cluster alone will open a second gateway to Tan Son Nhat airport, opening more access to the airport and reducing traffic pressure for the main entrance on Truong Son Street.
