Beep tomatoes originating from Israel in Nam Khat (Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai province) affirm their brand in the market. Growing Beep tomatoes in greenhouses is as beautiful as "paradise", helping tomatoes achieve a yield of up to 100 tons/ha.

Realizing that the rice fields in Nam Khat (Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai province) were being cultivated ineffectively, Mr. Nguyen Van Mui rented them to invest in building greenhouses to grow tomato varieties originating from Israel with high yield and good quality, thereby helping to increase the income of the people.

Beep tomato variety from Israel is suitable for Nam Khat land.

In 2023, after researching on the media, it was found that the Beep tomato variety originating from Israel grown in Da Lat has high economic efficiency.

Seeing that the climate conditions in Mu Cang Chai are similar, Nguyen Van Mui's family boldly invested 4.6 billion VND to build a greenhouse, design a water supply system from the stream to the farm, buy sour beep seeds from Israel, fertilizer and hire workers to grow tomatoes.

"The weather in Nam Khat commune, Mu Cang Chai district is cool all year round, this type of climate is very suitable for the growth and development of the Beep tomato variety.

"The good news is that while other agricultural production areas are in the hot season, making it difficult to grow tomatoes, people here are starting to harvest tomatoes. It's off-season so tomatoes sell for a good price, which helps the family earn a good income," Mr. Mui shared.

Mr. Mui’s Beep tomato farm, which originated from Israel, is located in the middle of a flat field, equipped with a greenhouse system, and surrounded by a B40 mesh fence to prevent livestock. The entire area is an inefficient rice field of the people that Mr. Mui rented to grow tomatoes.

Entering the farm, we were overwhelmed by the rows of tomatoes woven together higher than our heads, the colorful tomatoes hanging from the roots to the tops, creating the feeling of brilliant flower gates. In the farm, nearly 20 people were picking the fruit, another group was busy sorting them into plastic bins.

According to Mr. Mui, the Beep tomato variety is very suitable for the climate of Mu Cang Chai, especially in Nam Khat, and does not require high techniques in care. Growers only need to pay attention to fertilizing when the plant begins to flower and bear fruit.

Favorable weather will produce large, beautiful fruit, and the harvest time can be extended. Thanks to investment in greenhouses and clean water irrigation systems from the mountain stream, the yield and quality of the fruit are good, limiting pests and diseases as well as the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers during the care process.

Tomato harvest will pick ripe fruit from the base to the top, Israeli beep tomatoes usually start planting from around the 3rd - 4th lunar month, harvest from June - July, harvest time can last from 3 - 3.5 months to finish the season.

Israeli tomato variety is easy to grow and gives good income.

The production process of Israeli Beep tomatoes is carried out according to VietGap standards, using fertilizers and pesticides that are strictly monitored, recorded daily, and quarantined to ensure the time before harvesting.

The products are packed in plastic boxes, then shipped to wholesale markets in Vinh Phuc and Hanoi with prices fluctuating seasonally, from 5,000 - 10,000 VND/kg in the middle of the season depending on the type, and up to 30,000 - 40,000 VND/kg in the off-season.

Beep tomatoes are soft and tender when cooked, with a high starch content. Currently, tomatoes in Nam Khat are gradually asserting their brand in the market, being favored and highly appreciated by consumers. Growing in greenhouses, combined with fertilizing, using pesticides and watering properly helps tomatoes yield up to 100 tons/ha.

Mr. Giang A Tinh in Nam Khat commune shared that his family rented out rice fields for one crop at 5,000 VND/m2/year to grow tomatoes.

Thus, with nearly 2,000 square meters of rice fields, each year Mr. Tinh's family is paid nearly ten million VND in rent. In addition, he and his wife are also hired to work right in the tomato garden with the main job of taking care of and harvesting the fruit, thanks to which they have a more stable income than before.

Mr. Ly A Su, Vice Chairman of Nam Khat Commune People's Committee, added that from 2019 to now, the commune has more than 100 hectares of agricultural land, mainly land for one-crop cultivation and ineffective crop areas that people lease to businesses, cooperatives and individuals to convert to growing crops with high economic efficiency such as mushrooms, roses, potatoes, tomatoes, chili and some cold-loving vegetables.

"In the coming time, the local government will continue to encourage people to lease land to businesses and cooperatives to expand the area of crops suitable for the climate and soil, with high economic value. This will help people earn income from land rent and have stable jobs on farms," added the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nam Khat commune.
