On March 3, Power Project Management Board 1 - Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) held a ceremony to launch the construction of the 500 kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line, the section passing through Yen Bai province.
Mr. Pham Hong Phuong - Deputy General Director of EVN - said that the 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line project is a national key project that has been approved for investment by the Prime Minister.
After just over 3 months, all project preparation work was completed to start the first package.
Mr. Pham Hong Phuong - Deputy General Director of EVN - spoke at the program. |
The 500kV double-circuit transmission line project has a total length of 229.5km, with a total of 468 pole foundation locations. The project passes through 4 provinces including Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho and Vinh Phuc, starting at the 500kV Lao Cai station and ending at the 500kV Vinh Yen station. The total investment of the project is more than 7,410 billion VND, arranged from 80% of loan capital and 20% of EVN's counterpart capital.
According to Mr. Phuong, after being put into operation, the line will release about 2,000 MW from hydropower plants in the Northwest region and neighboring provinces to the national grid and increase the ability to import electricity from China.
"This project creates strong connections between areas in the power system; improves the safe and stable operation of the national power system; reduces power loss in the transmission grid; and increases the efficiency of EVN's electricity production and business," Mr. Phuong shared.
Speaking at the program, Mr. Ngo Hanh Phuc - Vice Chairman of Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee - assessed that the project is a special-level energy industrial project, belonging to the list of important national programs, works and projects, key to the energy sector, playing a very important role in the socio-economic development of the country in general and the northern provinces in particular.

The section passing through Yen Bai province alone is 90.06 km long, with 173 pole foundation locations passing through Luc Yen and Yen Binh districts. The project contributes to ensuring energy sources for the province's medium and long-term development goals.
According to the leader of Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee, the Prime Minister's direction requires the project to be completed before September 2, so the implementation requires a very urgent spirit.
Time is running out. In the context of local restructuring, there are many complicated procedures that require close coordination between localities and units, especially in changing the purpose of forest land use.
"We have directed departments, branches and units not to let the arrangement affect the implementation progress," said Mr. Phuc, at the same time requesting investors and contractors to coordinate and focus all efforts to strive to complete on schedule as required by the Prime Minister.
