Mountainous districts are increasingly prosperous
Implementing the new rural construction program in 2011, Nam Giang district has prioritized integrating support capital from programs and projects to invest in building rural infrastructure. Along with the efforts and struggles of the entire political system, the leadership of the district Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee, in general, the local socio-economic situation has been relatively stable, people's lives have gradually improved, and the face of the countryside has gradually changed.

Mr. Nguyen Dang Chuong - Vice Chairman of Nam Giang District People's Committee said: "As a mountainous district with a large area, scattered population, high poverty rate, low income of people.... Therefore, in the implementation process, Nam Giang district always focuses on effectively implementing emulation movements to join hands to build new rural areas to mobilize the participation of all classes of people, eliminate the mindset of waiting and relying on the support of the State, promote advantages to develop the economy, and reduce poverty sustainably".

The locality has invested in developing the socio-economic infrastructure in both scale and quality. Many large projects and works have been built such as: the traffic system to the commune and village centers has been invested in construction and concreted; the health system from the district to the communes, villages and hamlets has been completed in terms of facilities, equipment, and expertise, serving the medical examination and treatment needs of the people.
The district pays attention to and focuses on maintaining education and training; the work of preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities is always focused on; the work of managing land and environmental resources is carried out strictly and in accordance with regulations. The political security, order and social safety situation in the area is always maintained and stable.

Mr. Chuong said that when applying the new rural criteria for the period 2021-2025, many criteria are still very high compared to the actual situation of the locality. Therefore, Nam Giang district has proposed specific solutions for all levels and sectors to implement together.

In particular, investment resources need to integrate capital from the Central and provincial levels to support national target programs (new rural areas, socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, Sustainable Poverty Reduction Program 30a); counterpart capital from the district budget, capital mobilized from people's contributions (donation of land, crops, labor contributions...). Priority should be given to investment in infrastructure construction for communes reaching the new rural target in the period of 2021-2025 (Ta Bhing commune in 2024, La Dee and Dac Toi communes in 2025).
Determined to shorten the distance with the lowlands
Mr. Ho Viet Can - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nam Giang district said: Faced with the reality that people's lives are still facing many difficulties, Nam Giang district has determined to implement the new rural construction program on the basis of promoting the restructuring of crops and livestock, ensuring social security, creating jobs, and increasing income for people.

In recent times, with the strong direction of the District Party Committee, the District People's Council, and the District People's Committee, the district has focused on economic development from the career capital of national target programs. In particular, it focuses on implementing value chain linkage models (on crops: Vinh oranges, green-skinned grapefruits, bananas...; on livestock: breeding cows, local pigs...) to increase income for people participating in the project.
In addition, the District People's Committee annually supports 190 million VND/commune for localities to plant large timber forests. Over the past 4 years, more than 1,500 hectares of large timber forests have been planted, gradually forming large-scale planted forests and continuing to expand.

In 2023, agricultural and forestry production in the district will increase investment in the direction of sustainable development, with a total estimated value of 316.2 billion VND (an increase of 3.6% over the same period in 2022).
Up to now, Nam Giang district has 14 established cooperatives, of which 10 cooperatives are engaged in livestock and crop farming. Typically, A Lieng Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative and La Dee Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative have cooperated with local people to raise pigs, and Nam Giang Agricultural and Commercial Services Cooperative has cooperated to raise cows.
To promote the advantages of each locality, the District People's Committee encourages and mobilizes cooperatives and cooperative groups to promote processing activities to diversify products, meet consumer needs, and at the same time promote people's ability to connect and consume agricultural products.
Mr. Can added that participating in the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program, every year the district directs specialized agencies to coordinate with localities to promote, guide, and search for products with potential and advantages to put into practice. Thereby, select typical products to support development, increase product value and promote and expand the consumption market.

After more than 6 years of implementation, up to now, Nam Giang district has 8 products recognized as meeting 3-star OCOP standards, including: Adih bag (Zara Co Tu Brocade Weaving Cooperative), Nam Giang distilled Ta Vac wine (Nam Giang distilled Ta Vac wine production facility), Nam Giang canned specialty salt and black bean tea (Tri Nhat Production, Trade and Service Company Limited), Dried bamboo shoots (La Dee Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative), Nam Giang smoked black pork (Ca Dy Commercial Service Cooperative), Dried wild banana (Zo Ram Bach Production, Trade and Tourism Cooperative), A Diu pickled cucumber (Tran Thi My Y Business Household).
Along with the development of agricultural economy, in recent years, the Party Committee and the government of Nam Giang district have created favorable conditions to develop diversified industrial and construction sectors, trade services, and diverse goods trading to meet the needs of the people.
Along with that, poverty reduction work has received special attention from the government and has been effectively implemented, helping the poverty rate of the whole district by the end of 2023 reach 35.58% (down 7.97% compared to 2022).
The goal for the 2024-2025 period is that the district will have 3 communes reaching the new rural standard, with no more communes meeting less than 15 criteria. By 2030, the district will have 5/11 communes reaching the new rural standard, with each commune meeting an average of 17 criteria.
