In the first two months of 2025, Vietnam exported 284,000 tons of coffee, worth 1.58 billion USD, down 28.4% in volume but up 26.2% in value compared to the same period in 2024, due to increased export prices.

Notably, processed coffee exports increased by 26.0% compared to January 2024, reaching 116.7 million USD. The proportion of processed coffee exports increased to 16% of Vietnam's total coffee export value in the first month of 2025, higher than the proportion of 12.75% in January 2024. This is a positive signal in Vietnam's coffee exports, with the proportion of processed coffee exports increasing.

In terms of variety, while Robusta coffee exports tended to decrease, Arabica coffee exports increased. Accordingly, in the first month of 2025, Robusta coffee exports decreased by 47.9% in volume and 8.3% in value compared to January 2024, reaching 112,700 tons, worth 562.5 million USD. Regarding coffee prices, after decreasing at the end of 2024, Vietnam's coffee export prices increased sharply again in the first two months of 2025 due to limited supply.

In February 2025, the average coffee export price reached 5,695 USD/ton, up 4.7% compared to January 2025 and up 71.3% compared to February 2024. In the first two months of 2025, the average coffee export price reached 5,575 USD/ton, up 76.3% over the same period in 2024.

In February 2025, Robusta coffee prices in the domestic market increased the most on February 22, 2025, then adjusted due to weaker purchasing demand when businesses completed short-term export orders. Coffee prices on February 27, 2025 increased by 3,300 - 4,800 VND/kg compared to January 27, 2025, ranging from 128,000 - 130,000 VND/kg (depending on the surveyed area).

Meanwhile, according to the Import-Export Department, in late February 2025, coffee prices on the world market fluctuated in opposite directions, with Robusta coffee prices decreasing while Arabica coffee prices increased sharply.

Robusta coffee prices fell on expectations of a slight increase in global Robusta production and increased selling pressure from Vietnam amid ample supplies. Meanwhile, investment funds are reducing their long positions and demand from roasters is also somewhat reduced.

Arabica prices, on the other hand, are supported by forecasts of lower production in Brazil. According to the latest forecast from brokerage PineAgronegócios, Brazil’s coffee production in the 2025-2026 crop year will reach 59.75 million bags.

The 2024 drought and heavy pruning will reduce Arabica production by 16% to 36.46 million bags. Brazil’s coffee exports are forecast to fall by 22% in 2025-26 to 39.24 million bags due to a fifth consecutive year of poor Arabica production and low inventories.

Meanwhile, the outlook for Robusta coffee is more positive with production expected to increase by 8% to 23.29 million bags. With these factors, coffee prices may continue to fluctuate strongly in the coming time.

Vietnam is the third largest source of coffee for the US.

Currently, the US is one of Vietnam's important coffee export markets. According to statistics from the US International Trade Commission, in 2024, the US imported 1.48 million tons of coffee, worth 8.83 billion USD, up 6.3% in volume and 10.4% in value compared to 2023.

In 2024, the average import price of coffee into the US will reach 5,978 USD/ton, an increase of 3.9% compared to 2023. Of which, the average import price of coffee into the US from Vietnam will increase the most, up 50.9% compared to 2023, to 3,665 USD/ton.

In 2024, the US will import coffee from 100 countries and territories around the world. Brazil will be the largest source of coffee for the US in 2024, reaching 453,700 tons, worth 1.96 billion USD, up 31.8% in volume and 45.1% in value compared to 2023. Brazil's share of total US coffee imports will increase from 24.78% in 2023 to 30.72% in 2024.

Vietnam is the third largest coffee supplier to the US in 2024, reaching 96,800 tons, worth 355.0 million USD, down 32.2% in volume but up 2.2% in value compared to 2023. Vietnam's coffee market share in total US imports decreases from 10.29% in 2023 to 6.56% in 2024.
