The Politburo has decided to exempt all tuition fees for students from kindergarten to high school nationwide. The implementation will begin at the beginning of the new school year 2025-2026 (September 2025 onwards).

This information makes parents, especially families with children studying at public schools, very happy.

Free Tuition: A Sustainable Investment in People

Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Son - a full-time National Assembly delegate at the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Society, emphasized that the Politburo's decision is a historic milestone .

This represents a big step forward for Vietnam in building a fair, humane and sustainable education system.

"This is not only a socio-economic policy, but also a strong statement that education must be a basic right of every citizen, not a privilege reserved only for those with better financial conditions," Mr. Son stated.

He pointed out that this decision will have a positive impact, contributing to changing the lives of millions of families, especially the working poor, parents who used to worry about sending their children to school or covering daily expenses.

This will help to prevent children from having to interrupt their education because they cannot afford tuition fees.

From now on, every child can go to school without the pressure of tuition fees, and that is the most important premise to create a new generation of knowledgeable citizens with opportunities for comprehensive development.

"This decision of the Politburo not only brings immediate benefits, but is also a strategic investment for the country's future.

Because a country that wants to develop sustainably cannot rely only on resources or technology, but more importantly must invest in people.

"When education becomes a real right, when every student has the opportunity to access knowledge without being limited by economic circumstances, that is the foundation for Vietnam to break through and reach far," Mr. Son added.

The male delegate said that exempting tuition fees will not reduce the quality of education if there is a reasonable budget allocation policy, a transparent monitoring mechanism and synchronous solutions to improve teaching capacity and facilities.

Rather than being a burden on the budget, this is a long-term reinvestment, because what the country spends on education today will be repaid with strong development in the future.

Need strong solutions to support more non-public

Delegate Nguyen Thi Viet Nga (Hai Duong delegation) stated that at present, the Politburo's policy of exempting tuition fees for public school students nationwide is highly anticipated and appreciated by the people.

"Through monitoring social networks and interacting with people, I see that everyone is very responsive and excited about this information. This will help people reduce the economic burden when their children go to school at the general education level.

This is also a form of promoting learning and long-term investment for the future," Ms. Nga said.

According to Ms. Nga, the pressure on public schools is currently very high, especially in big cities when the system of facilities, schools, and classrooms is still lacking compared to the actual needs of the people. This leads to "very fierce competition" in each admission season.

Therefore, according to Ms. Nga, along with exempting tuition fees for public schools, there should be parallel solutions. Specifically, reviewing to add more schools and teachers to the public school sector to "reduce the heat and pressure".

At the same time, she suggested that there should be stronger and more practical solutions to encourage, attract and support non-public schools, helping to reduce the burden on the public sector.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, the country currently has 23.2 million students (not including students at vocational education and continuing education centers), including 3.1 million preschool children under 5 years old; 1.7 million preschool children 5 years old; 8.9 million primary school students; 6.5 million secondary school students and 3 million high school students.
