Many potential products, developing local strengths
According to the functional sector, in recent times, the OCOP program in Vinh Long has gradually gone into depth and received attention and active participation from subjects in the province.
2024 is the 6th year of implementing the OCOP program in Vinh Long province and the 4th year of the 2021-2025 period, so it has received a lot of support from departments, branches, organizations, local authorities, especially the attention and participation of OCOP subjects in the province, so the number of products registered to participate exceeds the program implementation plan.
In addition, the set of criteria for evaluating and classifying OCOP program products, including 26 types of forms issued under Decision No. 148/QD-TTg, is very scientific and suitable throughout the evaluation process, creating consensus among participating entities and members of district and provincial councils.
The assessment results also reflect the capacity of organizations and individuals in production and business, creating favorable conditions for departments, branches and sectors to promptly provide appropriate support and improvement.
The command and control system has been gradually improved, awareness of the meaning, importance and responsibility for implementing the program at the local level has been raised, specifically through including the OCOP program in the resolution targets of the Party Congresses at all levels (Vinh Long City); and ensuring criterion 13.2 in building advanced new-style rural communes, criterion 3.3 in building model new-style rural communes in the period of 2021-2025.
At the same time, the subjects have shown interest in applying science and technology in the production and processing of agricultural products, thereby improving the quality of products; applying information technology in management and operation; promoting, introducing and consuming products...
Many entities share and participate in the OCOP program, many products are empowered, have more opportunities to promote, expand the market, helping production and business activities become more and more effective.
Thereby, helping SP gain a foothold in the market, helping rural people increase their income. Not only that, OCOP SP also contributes to preserving and spreading local traditional culture. Therefore, in recent times, many subjects have proactively participated in improving and enhancing the quality of SP.
Proud to have 6 products achieving 4-star OCOP in 2024, Ms. Cu Thi Lan Chi - Owner of Tuyet Nhung CHIPAS business, shared: "Over the past time, the facility has continuously improved and enhanced quality to meet market demand, the cake products are produced on a technological line according to HACCP standards.
With the OCOP 4-star standard product certification, it is an important milestone on the journey of brand affirmation. At the same time, the facility wishes to contribute to promoting the typical product brand of Vinh Long province in the bakery market of Vietnam and the region.
According to Mr. Nguyen The Cong - Head of the Rural Development Department (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development), the OCOP program has created fundamental and positive changes such as awareness of people and economic organizations.
Especially in rural areas, in changing old, small-scale, fragmented and spontaneous production practices, new production methods have been gradually approached according to the chain and applied science and technology to improve quality and increase product value, while linking production with trade promotion and product marketing.
Strengthening propaganda, "raising the level" of OCOP products
However, according to the Evaluation Council, most of the entities participating in the OCOP program have small and weak scale and management capacity, and lack knowledge of market economy and product development according to the value chain.
The development and implementation of environmental protection plans have not been given due attention by production entities. Production entities have only focused on completing documents and have not paid attention to improving product quality.

Therefore, the competitiveness of OCOP products in the market is still weak. In addition, according to the set of criteria issued with Decision No. 148/QD-TTg dated February 24, 2023, many organizations and individuals with products participating in the program do not have sufficient documents to evaluate and classify products. Therefore, some products have registered but do not ensure the documents according to the criteria for evaluating and classifying products.
Accordingly, the advocacy and propaganda about the significance of the OCOP program needs to be expanded. There needs to be practical policies to support OCOP-standard establishments to continue upgrading to create a spillover effect of the program.
In order for the OCOP program to create a wide spread and gradually affirm the brand of Vinh Long province's products, Mr. Nguyen Van Liet - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, said: In the coming time, the subjects need to continue to research, innovate and improve the quality and design of products to promote the value of the province's OCOP products.
Departments, branches and organizations at all levels continue to strengthen the dissemination, deployment and implementation of the OCOP program in the coming period, especially the purpose, meaning and benefits of the subjects when participating in the program. Continue to select potential products and strengths of the locality to register to participate in the OCOP program.
In addition, it is necessary to focus on developing cooperatives, enterprises, and craft villages in a more substantial way to promote their leading role in the OCOP product value chains; strengthen the management and supervision of OCOP products. Functional sectors and relevant units need to continue to support trade promotion, build points of introduction and sale of OCOP products, especially at tourist destinations. From there, promote, boost consumption, promote production, and develop OCOP products of the province.
Localities need to monitor and support OCOP subjects, especially promote the benefits of product development so that subjects understand that OCOP product development is essentially rural economic development, a form of linking production and on-site consumption, focusing on building OCOP models combined with rural tourism, focusing on the work of inspecting and supervising product quality after being recognized.
After 6 years of implementing the OCOP program in the province, there are 230 products that have achieved OCOP certification (including 2 products with 5 stars; 79 products with 4 stars and 149 products with 3 stars) with 133 entities (31 cooperatives, 6 cooperative groups, 30 companies and 66 production and business households). In 2024, the OCOP Product Classification and Evaluation Council evaluated and classified 98 products with 62 entities. As a result, 59 products achieved 3-star certification; 35 products of 18 entities achieved 4-star OCOP certification (6 upgraded products, 7 re-certified products, 22 new products). In addition, there are 2 products achieving national OCOP certification: freeze-dried durian products of Sau Ri Company Limited and dried purple sweet potatoes of Dong Phat Food Company Limited. |
