TPO - After more than 400 years of history, Khuoi Ky stone village (Dam Thuy commune, Trung Khanh district, Cao Bang) still retains its unique architecture and culture, becoming an attractive destination for tourists.
Less than 3km from Ban Gioc waterfall, Khuoi Ky village (Dam Thuy commune, Trung Khanh district, Cao Bang) is over 400 years old and still retains its unique features and distinctive culture. With the lifestyle of the local people combined with the homestay model, the ancient stone village is increasingly attracting many domestic and international tourists. |
Currently, Khuoi Ky village has 14 households, 100% of whom are Tay ethnic people, living in ancient stone stilt houses of about 1 hectare. The village leans against a rocky mountain, surrounded by mountains and forests, and in front is Khuoi Ky stream, hence the name Khuoi Ky. |
Khuoi Ky was formed during the period 1594-1677 when the Mac Dynasty went to Cao Bang to build citadels to protect the country, the stilt houses were built like impregnable fortresses. |
Right from the beginning of the village, visitors can clearly feel the ancient and quiet features of Khuoi Ky by the wooden bridge. The road leading to the village is paved with cobblestones, and the fences separating the houses are also elaborately arranged with stones. |
Khuoi Ky village has a unique and strange beauty because the houses are built of stone, with yin-yang tiled roofs. In the Tay people's mind, rocky mountains represent gods, so houses made of stone will have the power to shelter and protect the villagers. |
An ancient stone house here has two floors, about 5-7m high. The first floor is mainly wooden pillars as a frame on a solid stone foundation. |
Some other apartments are built with stone on both floors, surrounded by many large doors and windows. |
Around the village are solid stone fences with a thickness of 3-40cm. |
In the daily life of the Tay people in Khuoi Ky, stone plays an important role, not only as a material for building houses and foundations, but also used in fences, garden fences, household items... |
Peaceful, quiet scene in the hundreds-year-old stone village. |
The houses here have a nostalgic beauty, tinged with time. |
In 2008, Khuoi Ky was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a “Typical traditional cultural village of ethnic minority communities”. Since then, the ancient village has been invested in, built and developed into a Tay ethnic cultural tourism village. |
Since 2016, households in Khuoi Ky village have begun to change, applying homestay tourism accommodation services to develop community tourism, attracting many domestic and international visitors, while creating livelihoods and income for ethnic households. The Khuoi Ky Tay ethnic tourism village project has become a highlight in developing community tourism in Cao Bang province. |
Tourists coming to Khuoi Ky village are increasingly crowded, especially at the end of the year and the beginning of the year. Coming here, tourists can freely admire the majestic mountains, immerse themselves in the fresh, cool air and admire the peace of the ancient village. |
