In 2017, Giao Thuy district became the 5th district in Nam Dinh province and the 50th district in the country to be recognized as meeting new rural standards. Immediately after being recognized as a district meeting new rural standards, Giao Thuy district quickly started building an advanced, exemplary new rural area.
On the basis of closely following the Resolution of the 20th Provincial Party Congress and the specialized Resolution of the Nam Dinh Provincial Party Committee on the task of building advanced and exemplary new rural areas, the Giao Thuy District Party Committee also issued a specialized Resolution to focus on leading and directing the task of building advanced and exemplary new rural areas, setting out specific goals, tasks and solutions for implementation.
With high determination and great efforts, the whole Giao Thuy district has 18 communes meeting advanced NTM standards, 14 communes meeting model NTM standards, and 2 towns recognized as civilized urban areas.
On August 2, 2024, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang signed Decision No. 761/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister recognizing Giao Thuy district as meeting advanced NTM standards in 2023.

According to the People's Committee of Giao Thuy district, by the end of 2023, the average income per capita in the district will reach 84.46 million VND/person/year, more than 4 times higher than in 2010; the poverty rate will be 1.07%; the near-poor rate will be 3.01%. The rate of people participating in health insurance will reach 95.80%.
By July 2024, the rate of households using clean water from centralized water supply works will reach over 94%. The rate of domestic solid waste collected and treated according to regulations will increase by 6% compared to 2017.
The lighting system is upgraded with cast poles, separate tube poles, LED lights, underground wires on the roads; 180/182 hamlets are recognized as cultural hamlets, the rate of families achieving the title of cultural family is 94%...
It is known that Giao Thuy district is the leading locality in Nam Dinh province in the movement to build advanced and exemplary new rural areas; it is the first district in Nam Dinh province and one of the first 10 districts in the country to be recognized by the Prime Minister as a district meeting advanced new rural standards in 2023.
