What do teachers who hire substitutes say?

(NLDO) - The teacher who was found guilty of hiring someone else to teach in his place shared about the incident with a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper.

On December 10, Mr. Ro Cham Thom (49 years old, teacher at Ia Mo Nong Primary and Secondary School, Chu Pah District, Gia Lai Province) shared with a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper about being found guilty of wrongdoing when he hired someone else to replace him in class.

The inspection team of Chu Pah district concluded that from September 2022 to December 2023, Mr. Thom did not teach but asked two colleagues, Ms. Bui Thi Huong and Tran Thi Tam, to teach the classes he was in charge of.

Ia Mo Nong Primary and Secondary School

According to Mr. Ro Cham Thom, after finishing grade 9, he continued to study at the intermediate level at Gia Lai Pedagogical College. After graduating, he applied to work in Chu Pah district. From 2008 to 2021, he was assigned to teach at Dak To Ve Primary School, Chu Pah district. In 2021, he was assigned to Ia Mo Nong Primary - Secondary School.

Mr. Thom considers himself a member of the previous generation, very poor in information technology and computer use. In terms of expertise, his ability to impart knowledge to students is also somewhat limited. However, he always tries to learn from his colleagues.

When he was at his old school, his colleagues often encouraged Mr. Thom to try to improve. However, when he went to his new school, he was constantly told to "submit an early resignation letter", so he felt a lot of pressure.

Regarding hiring a substitute teacher, Mr. Thom said that he had just started working at the school and only knew that Ms. Bui Thi Huong was a teacher at the same school, but did not know Ms. Tran Thi Tam. After hiring someone else to teach as a substitute, he had to use his own salary every month to pay for the work. With a salary of 10.5 million VND per month, after paying the substitute teachers and paying the bank interest, he only had enough money left to buy gas to go from home to school.

Regarding whether he wants to hire someone or not, Mr. Thom said he is just a normal teacher, "I listen to what my leader says, I don't argue back."

Previously, as reported by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper , the Inspection Team of Chu Pah District concluded that from September 2022 to December 2023, Mr. Ro Cham Thom hired two fellow teachers to teach in his place. The principal and teachers agreed to Mr. Thom hiring someone to teach in his place. During the time he hired someone to teach in his place, Mr. Thom was still paid benefits by the school, which is against regulations.

Primary level: Ia Mo Nong Primary and Secondary School has 100% of students from ethnic minorities. Currently, Mr. Ro Cham Thom still teaches as usual, assigned to teach physical education for the classes.

No high school diploma

Regarding the reason for requesting early retirement under the staff streamlining program, Mr. Ro Cham Thom stated that he did not have a high school diploma; could not keep up with the current education reform program; had poor health, often had pain in his legs and arms, so he could not walk or teach. According to Mr. Thom, he has submitted an application for early retirement and is waiting for approval.
