According to experts, in the coming years, the global pepper supply shortage will not be able to meet the increasing consumption demand. This is expected to cause pepper prices to increase sharply from 2024, opening up new development opportunities for the pepper industry in Vietnam.
Currently, instead of massively expanding pepper growing areas, Vietnamese pepper farmers focus on improving product quality, applying sustainable farming methods and combining intercropping to reduce costs, while better adapting to the impacts of climate change.
With the positive development of the industry, businesses in the pepper sector recorded impressive growth of 32-68% in 2024, some companies even achieved export revenue growth of up to 150% compared to 2023.

According to data from the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA), in contrast to the strong increasing trend from the US and EU, Vietnam's pepper exports to the Chinese market in 2024 dropped to the lowest level in the past 9 years, reaching only 10,549 tons, worth 32.15 million USD, down 82.4% in volume and 76.6% in value compared to 2023.
According to statistics, in 2024, China will reduce pepper imports from Vietnam by 82.4% but increase imports from Indonesia by 76.8%. However, this increase in imports is still not enough to meet total consumption demand in China.
Global pepper prices in 2025 are expected to remain high due to reduced supply, while demand in major markets such as the United States and Europe remains stable. Pepper use in the food and spice processing industries remains the main driver of the market.
