AI Building the Future of Semiconductors

At the thematic seminars within the framework of the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Semiconductors 2025 (AISC 2025) held in Hanoi from March 12-14, Mr. Da-Shan Shiu - CEO of MediaTek, commented on the importance of AI in controlling the semiconductor manufacturing process.

Explaining the above statement, Mr. Da-Shan Shiu said that the semiconductor industry requires high precision and must ensure optimal product quality, with the goal of achieving a nearly 100% standard product rate. In that context, AI and data will optimize the production process, from parameter control to improving equipment performance.

“Semiconductor manufacturing is all about precision, while also achieving near-perfect process control to maximize efficiency and yield. AI-powered process control automates processes, enabling real-time decision making to ensure stability, reduce waste, and improve product reliability,” added Da-Shan Shiu.

Da-Shan Shiu also mentioned how AI can help with real-time process control, especially in semiconductor manufacturing. AI can analyze data from measurement systems, identify small deviations in the production process, and suggest immediate adjustments. This helps reduce material loss and improve the reliability of the output product.

Another prominent application is AI’s support for energy and resource optimization. In semiconductor manufacturing, each processing step consumes a large amount of electricity and chemical resources. AI can adjust operating parameters to save energy while ensuring product quality.

For a more specific example, Mr. Da-Shan Shiu said that AI can track the energy consumption of each production stage, thereby optimizing the process to minimize waste without affecting performance.

“To fully exploit AI in semiconductor manufacturing, businesses need to invest in robust data systems and specialized AI models that match the complexity of manufacturing,” suggests Da-Shan Shiu.

Also talking about the role of AI in the semiconductor industry , Dr. Azalia Mirhoseini, an expert from Google Deepmind, said: AI through inference scaling, an area that is attracting great interest in AI research and semiconductor design.

AI optimizes semiconductor manufacturing processes

Sharing at the Roundtable Discussion with the topic "Expanding Innovation in AI - Semiconductor", Mr. Jae-Yong Park - Vice President of Tata Electronics - emphasized the role of AI in optimizing the semiconductor manufacturing process, especially in process control and improving equipment performance.

“Semiconductor manufacturing is a matter of absolute precision, and AI can help ensure near-perfect product quality,” said Jae-Yong Park.

According to Mr. Jae-Yong Park, Digital Twin is one of the important trends. In which, many businesses are using models to simulate production processes and predict fluctuations.

Sharing the same view, Mr. Da-Shan Shiu also said that Digital Twin helps optimize each step in semiconductor production, can predict potential errors, and helps minimize risks and losses.

Meanwhile, Mr. Daniel Weyl - Senior Vice President of Automotive, NXP is enthusiastic about the strong shift of the automotive industry, from a hardware-based field to a software-defined model. According to Mr. Daniel Weyl, the automotive industry is entering a phase where software will be the decisive factor for development, more than hardware.

“There, Edge AI will help the car make decisions in real time, ensuring maximum safety without being interrupted by network latency,” said Mr. Daniel Weyl.

Meanwhile, Mr. Loi Nguyen - Vice President of Marvell - emphasized that the development of AI and semiconductor technology must go hand in hand with sustainability.

"Technological growth cannot be separated from environmental responsibility. Developing energy-saving semiconductor systems will be the key to sustainable development," Mr. Loi Nguyen affirmed.

The International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Semiconductors (AISC) 2025, organized by Aitomatic (USA) and the National Innovation Center (NIC), officially opened. For the first time, more than 1,000 international and Vietnamese leaders and experts, including big names such as Google, IBM, Meta, Intel, TSMC, MediaTek, Tokyo Electron, Panasonic, Qorvo, Marvell and technology corporations from Silicon Valley (USA), gathered at AISC 2025, affirming Vietnam's position in the global AI and semiconductor industry.
