The European Union (EU) on February 28 issued a strong statement, reaffirming its call for an immediate ceasefire between warring parties in Sudan, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

The appeal is aimed at allowing Sudanese people to reunite with their families and loved ones, after two years of conflict in the country.
In a statement, the EU spokesperson stressed the need for a ceasefire that is not just temporary, but must pave the way for a lasting agreement that sets the stage for a comprehensive political process.
The 27-member bloc believes that only then can the Sudanese people return to normal life, and the country can embark on the path of reconciliation and recovery.
While calling for a ceasefire, the EU also pledged to continue providing humanitarian assistance to the people of the African country. However, the bloc stressed that assistance can only be effective if all parties involved ensure safe, timely and unhindered access for humanitarian operations, at all times and regardless of the ceasefire.
The EU's call for a ceasefire comes amid a worsening humanitarian situation in Sudan, with millions of people displaced and facing the risk of food shortages and disease.
