At the signing ceremony, Japanese Consul General ONO Masuo said that in addition to cooperation in implementing large-scale infrastructure projects such as METRO, highways, etc., the Japanese Government also pays great attention to cooperation in implementing small-scale projects at the grassroots level, because these are humanitarian aid and bring direct benefits to local people.

The aid activities are within the framework of the Japanese Government's Grassroots Grant Assistance Program (GGP).

The two projects, including “Project to equip bronchoscopy system for Ca Mau General Hospital” and “Project to equip Traditional Medicine - Rehabilitation equipment for Dong Hai District Medical Center, Bac Lieu Province” were selected by the Japanese Government for aid, both of which are of high urgency with a total value of 128,916 USD.

The Japanese Consul General said: “I hope that the officers and staff of the aid recipient agencies will ensure compliance with the contents of the aid contract when implementing the project, as well as pay attention to the use, management and maintenance of medical equipment carefully so that local people can use and benefit from it in the long term.”

Mr. ONO Masuo also expressed that in the future, if localities have any projects that bring direct benefits and contribute to improving the quality of life for local people, please contact them so that the Consulate General can consider and sponsor them.

Sharing at the event, Mr. Nguyen Hung Mong, Deputy Director of Dong Hai District Medical Center, Bac Lieu Province, said that the number of patients coming to the Traditional Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at the Center for examination and treatment is on average about 14,000 cases/year. The whole district has 3,138 people with disabilities. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure equipment to implement traditional medicine and rehabilitation techniques, in order to meet the needs of health care and improve the quality of life for patients.

GGP is a grassroots non-refundable aid program of the Japanese Government. From 1995 to 2023, Japan has provided aid to 226 projects in 26 southern provinces and cities, with a total value of more than 18 million USD in many fields such as education, health, agriculture, bridges, rural roads, etc.

These two projects include:

The project to equip the Ca Mau Provincial General Hospital with a bronchoscopy system, with an aid of 68,437 USD, will help the hospital detect and support the treatment of respiratory diseases early, contributing to improving the quality of medical services in the region and neighboring areas.

The project to equip traditional medicine and rehabilitation equipment for the Dong Hai District Medical Center, Bac Lieu Province, with an aid level of 60,479 USD, equips a total of 6 machines to help the center perform specialized physical therapy and rehabilitation methods, contributing to improving the quality of life.
