TPO - After nearly 3 weeks of piloting temporary sidewalk usage fees on 11 streets in District 1, there have been 193 registered cases with a total expected fee of more than 770 million VND.
On the afternoon of May 29, speaking with Tien Phong reporter, Mr. Duong Thanh Binh - Deputy Head of the Urban Management Department of District 1 (HCMC) said that as of 11:30 a.m. today (May 29), the Urban Management Department of District 1 recorded a total of 193 registered residents, with the total expected fee to be collected being more than 770 million VND. Currently, there are 65 cases that have paid the temporary sidewalk usage fee with the amount of nearly 270 million VND.
"The remaining cases are provisional amounts based on the area of registered households. Fees will be collected after the application is assessed and approved," said a representative of the Urban Management Department.

According to statistics from the Urban Management Department of District 1, Ben Thanh ward is the locality with the most registered cases with 129 cases, this is also the locality with the most cases that have paid the fee (31 cases).
Le Thanh Ton Street is the street with the most cases of temporary use of a part of the sidewalk with 74 cases, followed by Phan Boi Chau Street (34 cases), Phan Chu Trinh (23 cases), Tran Hung Dao Street (21 cases), Mac Dinh Chi (15 cases),...
According to the Urban Management Department of District 1, the district is currently piloting the implementation of the software "Look up and register for temporary use of District 1 sidewalks". The software will help people quickly look up sidewalk functions at specific house numbers in the district, through the sidewalk digital map, the sidewalk digital map will integrate all existing objects on the sidewalk such as sidewalk materials, trees and technical infrastructure works.
In fact, a survey in District 1 shows that people on the streets support the plan to charge fees on part of the sidewalk to serve the community and tourists. Registering for temporary use of the sidewalk via software helps to make revenue and expenditure transparent.
Previously, on May 9, the People's Committee of District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, applied a pilot program to 11 streets that are eligible to organize business locations, buying and selling goods in the district from May 9 to September 30.
The pilot routes include Hoang Sa Street (Tan Dinh Ward), Mac Dinh Chi Street (Da Kao Ward), Hai Trieu Street and Chu Manh Trinh Street (Ben Nghe Ward), Le Thanh Ton Street, Phan Boi Chau Street and Phan Chu Trinh Street (Ben Thanh Ward), Ham Nghi Street (Nguyen Thai Binh Ward), Tran Hung Dao Street (Pham Ngu Lao, Nguyen Cu Trinh, Cau Ong Lanh, Cau Kho Wards), Co Bac Street (Cau Ong Lanh Ward), Vo Van Kiet Street (Co Giang Ward).
These routes all ensure a minimum width of 3m, including 1.5m for pedestrians. Currently, District 1 is piloting a collection rate of 10/11 routes with a rental price of VND 100,000/m2/month (except Vo Van Kiet Street, Co Giang Ward, with a rental price of VND 50,000/m2/month).
