Open up new opportunities

From March 2 to 5, 2025, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Ngoc Tam and a delegation of the Provincial People's Committee organized a trade promotion delegation in Hong Kong (China). The delegation visited and worked at the Consulate General of Vietnam in Hong Kong (China). Ms. Le Duc Hanh - Consul General of Vietnam in Hong Kong received the delegation. At the meeting, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Ngoc Tam, on behalf of the provincial leaders, thanked the Consul General and his colleagues for their interest in the province and creating favorable conditions for the delegation of provincial leaders and enterprises to visit and work in Hong Kong.

The Vietnamese Consulate General in Hong Kong supported the provincial delegation to contact and work with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI), and meet the Hong Kong Food Council. As one of the provincial enterprises participating in the provincial delegation to Hong Kong, Chairman of the Board of Directors (BOD) and General Director of Ben Tre Coconut Investment Joint Stock Company (Beinco) Tran Van Duc said: “Beinco has exported to the Hong Kong market and established cooperative relations. However, through the trip, many new opportunities opened up for the province's enterprises such as: When the provincial delegation came to work with HKTDC, their structure was mostly large enterprises in Hong Kong - leading enterprises in the industry. Thereby, helping the province connect, especially in terms of agricultural products of the province with large enterprises in Hong Kong. During the trip, Beinco interacted with customers who were interested in the province's coconut products. After this trip, we are promoting, connecting and can certainly do it."

At the meeting with the Hong Kong Food Council, member enterprises of the Hong Kong Food Council expressed their interest in the province's products such as coconut products, fruits, seafood, etc. In particular, they wanted provincial enterprises to share more information about products they wanted to connect to the Hong Kong market.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mekong Fruit Import-Export Company Limited, Bui Duong Thuat, said: “Hong Kong is a hub for trade and consumption, bringing goods to all markets around the world. During the provincial delegation's visit to Hong Kong, the province introduced its potential and strengths, and Hong Kong businesses learned more about the province. Hong Kong expressed interest in the province's products and said they would come to the province to survey. It must be said that the meeting between the provincial delegation and Hong Kong was organized methodically and professionally thanks to the help of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Hong Kong.”

It is known that Hong Kong does not tax imports and only applies special income tax to four consumer goods: spirits, tobacco, hydrocarbon oil and methyl alcohol. In addition, Hong Kong does not apply quotas or anti-dumping laws, so it is known as a "shopping paradise". Hong Kong's natural resources are very limited, so food and raw materials must be imported.

International standards

At the working session with HKTDC, Ms. Sophia Chong - Deputy Executive Director chaired and some members received the provincial delegation. Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Ngoc Tam proposed that HKTDC support Ben Tre in finding partners to export the province's strengths and key products (processed products from coconut, agricultural and aquatic products...) to the Hong Kong market. The province will support, introduce and create favorable conditions for provincial enterprises to participate in trade promotion events in Hong Kong to find partners in the coming time.

Talking about the business connection opportunities of the province with the "fertile" market in Hong Kong, in his role as Chairman of the Provincial Business Association, Mr. Tran Van Duc commented: "Hong Kong is a large market in nature, and its scale is global, not just regional. When doing business with multinational corporations in Hong Kong, we must be extremely professional. Professionalism is that we must demonstrate the production capacity of our enterprises. Next is to standardize international standards to meet the requirements of the Hong Kong market."

“From Hong Kong, new goods are catalyzed to enter and export to world markets. Therefore, they buy goods with very high standards such as European and American standards. Therefore, to do business with Hong Kong, enterprises must establish a factory system with standards for quality and long-term stability of products to be able to connect with Hong Kong enterprises. I also want to give advice to provincial enterprises to be very careful about standards, quality, production capacity, and competitive prices,” Mr. Tran Van Duc added.

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Van Niem, after the business trip, the province received a lot of information from Hong Kong wishing to connect with businesses that have products they need. The Department's information reception department has connected with businesses in the province. In the near future, the Department will mobilize businesses in the province to participate in a number of large-scale fairs held in August and November 2025 in Hong Kong.

“Penetrating the Hong Kong market is not only about the 7.5 million people here, but more importantly, from here, businesses can completely penetrate the billion-people market in China. Hong Kong is also the center of trade between Asia and Europe, a major financial and economic center, so it gathers leading distributors. Therefore, through the Hong Kong market, businesses can also access other large markets such as Europe and the US”...
