This is truly one of Hanoi's great potentials, if we know how to exploit and promote these advantages to promote and introduce OCOP products for socio-economic development in rural areas.

Bat Trang Commune (Gia Lam District) is one of the typical craft villages of Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general that is being preserved and developed very successfully. This is also a ceramic craft village that contributes many OCOP products to the city.

Currently, Bat Trang commune has about 50 OCOP products that have been evaluated and classified; including products that have been rated 5 stars - the highest ranking in the current OCOP evaluation scale. Thanks to participating in the OCOP Program, the most unique and special products of the craft village have been highly appreciated by domestic and foreign consumers.

Director of Quang Vinh Ceramics Joint Stock Company Ha Thi Vinh said that the company has 4 products: "Red lotus ceramic bowl and plate set", "Swallow and lotus ceramic bowl and plate set", "Dragon and phoenix ceramic bowl and plate set" and "Swallow and lotus ceramic tea set" participating in OCOP and being rated 5 stars. Currently, the company's ceramic products have been exported to many countries around the world.

Meritorious Artisan Nguyen Van Trung, Chairman of the Phu Vinh Bamboo and Rattan Association - Phu Nghia Commune, Chuong My District, said that the commune has the most certified OCOP products in the district with 54 products. Of these, his family alone has 23 certified products.

In 2024, Phu Vinh Bamboo and Rattan Association with only 35 members exported more than 100 billion VND. Developing production not only contributes to maintaining, preserving and developing craft villages, but also promotes brand building, expands consumer markets; at the same time, creates jobs and increases income for people in the region, Mr. Trung shared.

Van Ha is a famous woodworking village in Dong Anh district and the northern provinces. In recent years, this village has changed significantly, its products are consumed strongly in the domestic and export markets. The woodworking industry has become a key economic sector of the locality.

Currently, 60% of households in Van Ha commune produce, trade and do wood carving. Production facilities are distributed in 5 villages in the commune. Notably, the commune has 14 artisans recognized by the Hanoi People's Committee; 48 members are representatives of production households and wooden furniture manufacturing enterprises in the area... Participating in the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program, Van Ha has 31 wooden handicraft products recognized as 3-4 star OCOP products.

Van Ha wooden products are diverse in types, from furniture (cabinets, altars, tables and chairs) to statues, relief paintings... The items are very popular with domestic and foreign customers. Some products have won high prizes in handicraft design competitions, and have been voted as typical rural industrial products at the city and regional levels. Every year, wooden handicraft products produced here have brought in a huge source of income, and at the same time created jobs for many people.

Innovation to enhance the value of OCOP products

Me Linh district is famous as one of the largest "flower granaries" of the capital, with a total planting area of up to 2,000 hectares. On average, each year the district supplies the Hanoi market and neighboring areas with millions of branches of various flowers, but the most famous and branded are still roses, lilies, chrysanthemums... Me Linh flowers are famous for their bright colors, large flowers, and longer durability than other places. Flower growing has become a profession that brings the main and stable income to people in the villages: Dai Bai (Dai Thinh commune), Ha Loi (Me Linh commune), Van Quan (Van Khe commune)...

Tourists choose everlasting fresh flowers as gifts at Me Linh Dried Flower Agricultural Production and Service Cooperative.

However, when witnessing the flowers being thrown away after a few days, Mr. Dinh Van Tuan, 43 years old, Director of Nhu Tam Immortal Flower Joint Stock Company (Khe Ngoai 1 village, Van Khe commune, Me Linh district) was thinking hard, looking for a way to keep the flowers' eternal beauty.

Mr. Tuan sought knowledge about flower preservation techniques, went to Thailand, Japan and India, countries famous for fresh flower preservation technology, to learn from experience.

After 3 years of learning and researching (from 2019 - 2022), Mr. Tuan has found his own secret to preserve "immortal flowers" with a lifespan of up to tens of years. From 2022 to now, he has officially started a business and brought his knowledge and experience to teach the people of Me Linh. His company Nhu Tam Immortal Flowers Joint Stock Company currently has 10 workers working continuously with an average salary of 6 - 12 million VND/person/month.

Among them, there are 5 individual households with 20 workers currently belonging to the Me Linh Dried Flower Production and Agricultural Service Cooperative (Dong Cao village, Trang Viet commune). On average, each month, the cooperative produces hundreds of flower vases of different sizes, generating revenue of 200 - 300 million VND/month.

Highly appreciating the development potential of the "immortal flower" profession, Deputy Head of the Economic Department (Me Linh District People's Committee) Nguyen Tien Hung said that "immortal flower" is one of the 3-star OCOP products at the district level. This product still has a lot of room for development and can become a typical product of the Me Linh brand.

At the conference on evaluating and classifying Central OCOP products in 2024 held on January 16, 2025, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Thanh Nam said that in order to increase the value of OCOP products, entities need to continue to improve and enhance product quality, and indications of product origin associated with local advantages, values and identities. Entities also need to focus and pay attention to environmental protection, fully implementing environmental protection regulations in production and business activities.

The Deputy Minister suggested that businesses and production facilities should pay attention to tracing the origin of products, ensuring transparency and prestige for consumers. At the same time, prioritize the use of safe and environmentally friendly raw materials to create sustainable export opportunities, enhancing the value of OCOP products in the international market.
