On the afternoon of March 19, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc worked with District 1 on the socio-economic development situation.
One of the issues that the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee is concerned about with District 1 is the development of the night economy. According to Mr. Duoc, the night economy here is not about eating and drinking but must have modern activities, creating a cultural space and carrying the identity of Ho Chi Minh City.
Mr. Duoc cited that currently, when going to other countries, there are typical shows that tourists remember when mentioning them, but Ho Chi Minh City and District 1 do not have such products. He suggested that District 1 can organize street performance routes combined with sidewalk economic development.
Regarding the method of developing the night-time economy, Mr. Duoc said that we should call on the private sector to participate in development.
Mr. Duoc assigned the People's Committee of District 1 to be the focal point, coordinate with departments and branches, and consult experts to develop a project to develop the night economy. The first step is to pilot calling for investors to build night tourism products along the Saigon River, from Ba Son Bridge to Nha Rong Wharf, with the highlight being the Tran Hung Dao Monument area.
Besides, it is developing night services on Nguyen Hue street and Le Loi street.
As for Nguyen Hue Street, which is the place where Ho Chi Minh City's regular events are held, it is necessary to call for investment in multi-utilities and multi-products, so that one event can promote the development of another.
Mr. Duoc cited that recently there was a proposal to build a cinema park on the banks of the Saigon River. Activities like this can both develop the night economy and organize shows with strong cultural identity. He said District 1 can completely call for investment to develop the night economy on each street.
Think big, act big to win big
Speaking further about the proposal of District 1 People's Committee to soon decide on architectural planning criteria for the Ga market and Gao market projects (Cau Ong Lanh ward), Mr. Duoc said that District 1 mainly develops trade and services, so urban beautification is very important. District 1 must consider urban beautification, order management and architectural planning as top priorities.
Currently, District 1 has developed quite "properly" but not enough, there are still some shabby places such as Ga market, Gao market or Ma Lang area. According to Mr. Duoc, with a central district, the face of Ho Chi Minh City, it is unacceptable that such areas still exist.
Mr. Duoc basically agreed with District 1's proposal on the decision on architectural planning criteria for the Ga and Gao markets projects and requested the Department of Construction to advise on a solution.
This is a project aimed at the people, improving the quality of life of the people, and at the same time the urban appearance is renovated, so we cannot "complain about difficulties but not do it".
"There is no difficulty without a way out, unless we don't think, but if we think, there must be a way out. If we don't go, we won't arrive. If we go, we will arrive," said Mr. Duoc.
He emphasized that in current conditions, we must think big and do big to win big. We can have thoughts that go beyond the framework and limits, but everything has a way out.
Issues that are not in accordance with the law are proposed to be amended for the purpose of promoting the common good, the interests of the people, so that people have more decent housing and Ho Chi Minh City can be cleaned and beautified.
