On the morning of March 21, at the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), Minister Nguyen Kim Son received the Ambassador of the European Union to Vietnam, Mr. Julien Guerier.

Speaking with Minister Nguyen Kim Son, Ambassador Julien Guerier expressed his support for Vietnam's goal of becoming a high-income country by 2045, affirming the importance of education and training in contributing to realizing this goal.
Stating that he always pays attention to and follows the development of Vietnamese education, the Ambassador mentioned the information that Vietnamese public school students will be exempted from tuition fees from the 2025-2026 school year and commented that this decision will increase access to education for all groups in society, ensuring educational equity.
In addition, the Ministry of Education and Training's acceptance of the vocational education sector brings important benefits in having consistent policies, helping to promote skills improvement for the workforce, meeting national needs in a rapidly changing world context.

The Ambassador also said that the European Union will continue to support Vietnam's education development, especially through the Erasmus+ Program; and emphasized the role of the European Union's private sector in education and training cooperation efforts between the two sides. The participation of this sector is also very consistent with Resolution 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation.
During the discussion, the Ambassador spent a lot of time on the Vietnam - EU Vocational Education Project (VETVET). VETVET is the first and largest technical assistance project for vocational education co-funded by the EU, the French Government, and the Federal Republic of Germany with a total non-refundable aid of up to 54.6 million EURO; the total implementation period is 5 years, expected from 2026-2030. The Ambassador hopes to receive close attention and direction from the Minister to complete the project documents and financial agreements on time.

Expressing his gratitude to Ambassador Julien Guerier and representatives of the European Union Delegation for their attention, support and cooperation with Vietnam's education and training over the past time, especially with vocational education, Minister Nguyen Kim Son affirmed that he will promote work related to the VETVET project.
According to the Minister, vocational training institutions in Vietnam have a great need to improve facilities, capacity of teachers and learners. The implementation of the VETVET project will contribute to improving the quality of vocational education, therefore the Ministry of Education and Training supports and really wants this project to be implemented in Vietnam.

The Ministry of Education and Training has also proposed signing a Letter of Intent between the Ministry and the European Union to enhance cooperation in education and training. The Minister hopes for the support and encouragement of the Ambassador so that this Letter of Intent can be quickly completed and signed.
