Double 2T: Poor boy once wished to study under electric light

Rapper Double 2T chose his hometown to fulfill his childhood dream of studying under the electric light. As the representative image of the charity group That, Truong's project is to bring solar power to remote villages and hamlets without electricity.

Truong's hometown is in the mountainous district of Lam Binh (Tuyen Quang province). His family's small house is located at the foot of Lai Pass - a high, dangerous pass that separates his house from the district center. Not many people know that the rapper who always appears with slicked back hair and "cool" black glasses had a poor childhood in the highlands.

At that time, there was no paved road, so it took a whole day to cycle from the school to the district center (formerly Chiem Hoa district). The Lai pass right behind the school was slippery, steep and prone to landslides. There had been many tragic accidents on that pass. His small village had no electricity, so to get to school, he had to cycle about 3 kilometers on a bumpy road.

Truong said he could not forget the image of his friends who, whenever it rained, would come to class with their pants covered in mud because they had slipped and fallen. He also could not forget the flickering kerosene lamp by the desk. The soot blackened the small glass bulb, the size of a duck egg.

Bringing electricity to Khuon Kat, a small, remote mountain hamlet in Khuon Ha commune, Lam Binh district (Tuyen Quang province), Double 2T was moved: "It's like seeing my old self again."

There were still students with bare feet, clothes covered in mud, hair smelling of kitchen smoke.

Without electricity, the children lit a fire in the middle of the house to get light to study. Many days tears streamed down their faces because of the smoke.

Connecting millions of volunteer hearts

Double 2T filmed the MV Stealing the Sun right in the remote mountain village where the solar power project was brought to. Up to 80 artists and celebrities participated, including many famous singers such as Hong Nhung, Tung Duong, Phuong My Chi, Trang Phap... who did not hesitate to participate to spread the practical meaning of the program.

Released on social networks, this MV has had millions of views. The touching story about the dream of a poor highland student who wants to "pick up" sunlight to light up his village every night has touched many hearts.

Many people have contacted to donate and share with children in the highlands. Other groups have donated themselves and organized volunteer trips for the community.

That success encouraged the charity groups That and Double 2T to continue. This time, it is to bring solar power to Lang Giang, a village on a towering mountain in Mu Cang Chai (Yen Bai province).

Adding hundreds of millions of dong in contributions means more solar power systems bringing light to people in the highlands.

Sharing about the "Promising Young Face" award that was just announced, Double 2T said it was a precious opportunity for him to share and he hopes that more people, especially young people, will know the special meaning of the "Stealing the Sun" project.

Spend all bonus money on project

Double 2T contributed all 200 million VND of the Rap Viet 2023 championship prize to the "Stealing the Sun" project. More than a dozen isolated households in the Khuân Kặt mountain hamlet were overwhelmed when the volunteer group installed solar power as a gift.

The scenes in the MV Stealing the Sun were filmed in this special highland hamlet. The MV's content is the story of a poor mountain student's dream. Because there is no electricity, he has to study in the dark, so he dreams of a miracle that can steal part of the sunlight so he can fulfill his dream of going to school.
