Recently, the People's Committee of Dam Rong district has issued many policies to encourage localities to encourage farmers to boldly introduce new crops, apply science, technology and high technology in production, keep pace with modern agriculture, and contribute to making agriculture a "pillar" for economic growth.
Dam Rong district is maintaining 15 chains and links in agricultural production and consumption. |
Mr. Nguyen Van Chinh - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dam Rong district said that in 2024, the agricultural economy in the district will continue to develop, the planting area, productivity, and prices of key agricultural products will all increase compared to the same period; activities of the chain linking production, consumption and processing of agricultural products will continue to be maintained and expanded; disease prevention and control work will be strengthened, proactively and promptly prevented.
Notably, the total value of agricultural - forestry - fishery production at comparable prices is expected to reach more than 4,411 billion VND, an increase of 414 billion VND, equivalent to an increase of 10.37%; an increase of 3.3% compared to the plan. Dam Rong district is also maintaining a cultivated area of over 23,935.6 hectares; total food output reaches over 18,600 tons; average income product value per cultivated unit in 2024 reaches over 170 million VND/ha. In particular, the area of high-tech agricultural production reaches 1,099 hectares (an increase of 279.6 hectares, equivalent to an increase of 34% over the same period in 2023, mainly fruit trees) with a production value of over 350 million VND/ha.
In addition, in recent times, Dam Rong district has converted and reduced about 1,302 hectares of ineffective cultivated land (income under 50 million VND/ha/year) to grow crops and livestock with high economic value; in which, replanting and grafting coffee from 835 hectares or more (replanting 755 hectares and planting 80 hectares). The cultivated area with a value of less than 50 million VND/ha has decreased to 2,212 hectares; maintaining 15 chains, linking in production and consumption of agricultural products, with over 1,100 participating households, agricultural output through the chain is over 11,500 tons. In 2024 alone, Dam Rong district will establish 2 new cooperatives operating in the agricultural sector, 5 cooperative groups; in which cooperatives operate effectively, ranked as fair and good at over 50%. The rate of irrigated cultivated area reaches over 85%.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Chinh, the good news is that the planting area, productivity, and prices of the district's main agricultural products have all increased year by year. Particularly for perennial industrial crops, the district has a total area of 19,120.1 hectares. Currently, the district has harvested a number of fruit trees such as avocado, durian, rambutan, etc. with productivity and output mostly increasing compared to the same period last year. Of which, for key crops such as coffee, the district has 12,586 hectares, with an estimated yield of 31.77 quintals/hectare, and the total output of coffee beans is estimated at 37,990 tons. In addition, the district currently has more than 900 hectares of mulberry trees. In recent times, the price of silkworm cocoons has always been stable, fluctuating from 170,000 - 200,000 VND/kg, so many households have converted and developed silkworm farming to increase their income. The durian growing area is 3,015 hectares; of which the product growing area is 1,069 hectares, an increase of 863 hectares compared to the same period in 2023; the output in 2024 is over 11,500 tons. The macadamia growing area is 1,662.5 hectares; of which the product growing area is 385 hectares, the estimated yield is 80 quintals of fresh fruit/hectare, the output is 3,080 tons of fruit.
On the other hand, the development of livestock and aquaculture in the area also continues to achieve many important results. The total livestock herd in the district is 15,117; mainly cows and pigs, and 137.2 thousand poultry. Silkworm breeding activities continue to be maintained with the silkworm cocoon output in 2024 reaching 1,232.5 tons. In the district, there is a silk reeling factory with a capacity of 2 tons/day, which has linked the production, consumption, and stable processing of silkworm cocoons for more than 500 households.
Along with that, the aquaculture area in the district is 177 hectares, with an output of over 1,424.3 tons; of which the cold-water fish farming area is over 15.27 hectares (an increase of 5.57 hectares compared to the same period in 2023), mainly high-tech sturgeon farming, with an average output of over 1,374 tons. The development of cold-water fish farming has brought high economic efficiency, and many farming households are expanding their investment.
To develop the processing industry and rural industries, the People's Committee of Dam Rong district has also directed the unit to coordinate with the Departments of Finance - Planning, Economy and Infrastructure to advise the People's Committee of the district to direct and promote the establishment of cooperatives and cooperative groups linked with enterprises and economic sectors to supply materials and purchase, process and consume agricultural products for farmers; closely linking production and market through good implementation of market forecasting to proactively inform people. Coordinate with telecommunications units, production and business entities to bring 100% of OCOP products, potential agricultural products, and strengths of the district to e-commerce platforms.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment has also proactively organized workshops on field production skills at effective production models; proactively innovated agricultural extension activities to serve the restructuring of the agricultural sector, integrated knowledge of high-tech agriculture and clean agriculture into training programs, etc.
