According to their concept, the traditional rammed earth house is the measure of the wealth of each family, each clan, this is also the basis to determine which Mong people have lived the longest in the area. A rammed earth house means the walls of the house are compacted with soil, so that the soil can compact into a wall, people call it a rammed earth house.

The rammed earth house has a roof covered with yin-yang roofing, surrounded by pine wood from the rocky plateau, the walls are made of earth, people use available surrounding materials to build the house. All stages to complete the rammed earth house are done by hand, without any machines.

The vast nature, rugged terrain, and harsh climate of the rocky plateau have had a profound impact on the architecture of the Mong people's houses here. The earthen houses are warm in winter and cool in summer.
