Social work plays an important role in ensuring social security.

Since 2010, based on the reality and support needs of social groups along with social issues such as health, illness, violence, child abuse, mental health, lonely elderly people... The Prime Minister has issued the Project on developing the Social Work profession for the period 2010-2020, laying the foundation and the first direction for the development of social work in Vietnam. On September 15, 2016, the Prime Minister decided to choose March 25 every year as Vietnam Social Work Day with the aim of honoring the value and humanistic significance of the social work profession and the role and contributions of social workers. This is an important milestone, creating motivation for the professional development of the Social Work profession.

In Da Nang city, social work has been focused on implementation and achieved important results. The city has issued many humanitarian programs and projects such as social work development programs, social security programs, inclusive education, legal aid, public health care, poverty reduction, support for the disabled, the elderly, child protection and care... Focusing on developing and improving the capacity of the network of social workers at all levels to increase support for the people.

Deputy Director of the Department of Health Phan Van Son awarded scholarships to children of members of the City Association for the Blind, who are in special and difficult circumstances.

Along with that, social work activities in hospitals and schools are of interest. 100% of hospitals and medical centers under the city's health sector have Social Work Departments/Teams. The system of facilities providing social work services has been invested and developed in a variety of types and support services, including health, education, social, legal, employment, etc. In which, the City Social Work Center is the focal point connecting and providing social work services in the area for the people; the Social Protection Center, Mental Health Care Center and social protection centers of associations have helped care for and nurture nearly 1,000 vulnerable people without a place to rely on to have a loving home to integrate and develop.

The city regularly raises the level of social assistance, expands the target group and provides timely support in situations of natural disasters, epidemics and sudden difficulties, helping people quickly overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives. Every year, the city organizes events and programs to celebrate Vietnam Social Work Day on March 25, and at the same time directs units and localities to organize activities to celebrate, honor, and implement policies and regulations well, and mobilize resources to support social beneficiaries.

Speaking at the program, Deputy Director of the Department of Health Phan Van Son acknowledged the role, merits and extremely humane contributions of organizations and individuals, especially those working in social work in hospitals, schools, social assistance facilities and in the community in the past time, who have overcome difficulties and constantly strived for a better, more prosperous life for the unfortunate and those in especially difficult circumstances in the city.

The Deputy Director of the Department of Health said that on August 30, 2024, the Government issued Decree No. 110/ND-CP on social work, creating a legal framework for the development of professional social work in many fields, especially new regulations on granting certificates of registration to practice social work, creating many new opportunities, as well as many new requirements for social workers.

However, current difficulties and challenges in social work such as: community awareness; human resources; coordination, connection, and service coordination; especially social issues tend to increase and become more complex, with many new social issues arising due to the impact of natural disasters, novel epidemics, climate change, urbanization, migration, and digital technology.

“In the face of that reality, I propose that in the coming time, departments, branches, unions, units and localities strengthen their direction and promote social work activities in their units according to the plans and directions of the Central Government and the City People's Committee, pay attention and invest properly so that social work can develop strongly and increasingly go into depth; constantly innovate to make the social work profession more and more professional and developed, contributing to the city's implementation of ensuring social security goals", Deputy Director of the Department of Health Phan Van Son emphasized.

Interact with social workers in the city

With the theme "Vietnam Social Work - Innovation, Connection and Professionalism", the Deputy Director of the Department of Health requested that all sectors at all levels, organizations and individuals working in social work continue to promote determination, cooperation, and close connection so that the city's social work can increasingly develop, expand and become more professional; each individual maximizes their capacity, strengths, and personal experience, constantly contributes their intelligence and enthusiasm, upholds the compassion and noble ethics of social workers to fulfill the mission of social workers in the most complete way, contributing to the city's successful implementation of the goals of the social work development program, ensuring social security, "leaving no one behind", bringing a prosperous, equal and happy life to all people in the city, building a truly fair, progressive, civilized and happy society.

On this occasion, the Da Nang City Children's Fund awarded 20 scholarships, each worth 1 million VND, to 20 children of members of the City Blind Association, with special and difficult circumstances.
