Construction and upgrading of many projects serving APEC 2027 in Phu Quoc City

Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Kien Giang Province Nguyen Thanh Nhan said that the province proactively assessed infrastructure, proposed to the Government a number of key projects, and recommended appropriate mechanisms and policies; at the same time, proposed solutions and roadmaps to mobilize the maximum political system, with the participation of the people, social resources, especially strategic investors to thoroughly prepare for the APEC 2027 Summit Week.

This is an important task, requiring urgency and strictness, and the works, projects and tasks must be completed on schedule, with quality, meeting international standards, contributing to making APEC 2027 an important mark for Phu Quoc, Kien Giang province in particular and Vietnam in general to international friends.

Phu Quoc International Airport is expanded to 1,073 hectares, extending the existing runway to 3.5 km, building a new runway 2 of 3.3 km, building a new terminal T2, an international terminal with a capacity of up to 20 million passengers and a VIP terminal, an apron with a capacity of up to 70 seats, a hangar area, aircraft maintenance and repair, and a cargo warehouse. An Thoi International Seaport is upgraded to a scale of 100 hectares, capable of receiving the world's largest cruise ships such as Icon of the Seas with a capacity of 7,000 - 10,000 passengers.

Along with that, Phu Quoc will expand provincial road 975, invest in building new urban roads, implement the eastern coastal road project, upgrade the Duong Dong axis road to the north of the island (975B) and the Phu Quoc island east-west boulevard project connecting the new administrative area of ​​Phu Quoc with Ham Ninh port. APEC boulevard projects will also be implemented to create a horizontal axis connecting provincial roads 973, 975 with the APEC multi-functional complex, with a roadbed width of 68m and a length of about 3km.

The APEC multi-functional complex is a key project, contributing to raising the national status in the new era. The project reclaims 57 hectares of land from the sea, does not require site clearance, and creates a land fund for project development with unique landscapes associated with the existing beach.

The complex has a total capacity of nearly 15,000 people, including many works such as a 10,000m² conference and exhibition center serving international conferences and seminars with a capacity of 3,000 - 3,500 seats; an international press center ensuring service for 3,000 - 4,000 reporters; APEC square; a high-rise mixed-use area with hotels, commercial centers, and duty-free shopping.

This complex also has a multi-purpose cultural and artistic palace with a capacity of 3,000 - 3,500 seats, modern equipment that can organize art programs and shows staged by the world's leading units.

In addition, the 69-storey iconic mixed-use building, combining offices, hotels, shopping malls and marinas, is expected to become a new century project for Phu Quoc. These modern key projects, when completed, will not only contribute to the success of the APEC 2027 Summit Week but also create a new symbol for Phu Quoc, creating sustainable values ​​for the island's tourism industry.

FOCUS ON MOBILIZING RESOURCES FOR IMPLEMENTATION

In order for the above projects to be completed on schedule, within the time and plan to serve APEC 2027, Kien Giang and related central ministries, branches, and strategic investors will resolutely implement them according to the direction of the Government and the Prime Minister. Kien Giang province mobilizes and focuses resources to well carry out investment preparation and site clearance for projects; accelerates investment promotion, attracts strategic investors; urgently negotiates and identifies invested projects to have plans to renovate and improve quality.

Mr. Dang Minh Truong - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sun Group Corporation said that APEC 2027 Summit Week will be an important milestone, creating momentum to turn Phu Quoc into a leading tourism - economic center in the region and the world.

“If we are assigned the task and responsibility of implementing projects serving APEC 2027, with determination and responsibility, we commit to accompany the Government, authorities and people of Kien Giang province and Phu Quoc city, mobilizing all resources to realize this vision and the aspiration to enrich and beautify the precious pearl of Phu Quoc,” said Mr. Truong.

According to Chairman of Phu Quoc City People's Committee Tran Minh Khoa, the implementation of APEC projects not only aims to develop modern infrastructure but also affirms Phu Quoc's position on the international map, promotes economy, tourism and improves the quality of life for local people. Phu Quoc City will closely connect with investors and related units, take advantage of the leadership and close direction of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee to mobilize all necessary and legal resources to implement projects and works according to the right goals, progress and highest efficiency.
