National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Society: Supervision in Khanh Hoa on the implementation of population policies and laws

On the afternoon of March 21, the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Society's Supervisory Delegation led by Ms. Do Thi Lan - Vice Chairwoman of the Committee on Culture and Society worked with the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province on the implementation of population policies and laws in Khanh Hoa province in the period of 2018 - 2024. Mr. Dinh Van Thieu - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and representatives of relevant departments and branches received and worked with the delegation.

At the meeting, the leaders of the Provincial People's Committee reported on the issuance of documents, propaganda work, achievements as well as shortcomings and limitations in implementing population policies and laws. From 2018 to 2024, Khanh Hoa has proposed many solutions to strive to achieve the target of fertility rate, maintain replacement fertility rate and population size according to Resolution No. 21 of the 12th Central Executive Committee on population work in the new situation. Accordingly, the fertility rate in Khanh Hoa increased from 1.4 children/woman (in 2018) to 1.8 children/woman (in 2024), but it is difficult to achieve the target of 2.1 children/woman by 2030. Regarding population structure, the proportion of the elderly population (aged 65 and over) increased from 8% to 10.2%; The proportion of the working-age population decreased from 65.1% to 62.7%. The province has implemented measures to achieve the goal of bringing the sex ratio at birth to a natural balance from 110.4 boys/100 girls to below 109 boys/100 girls; population distribution is different, concentrated in urban areas and decreasing in rural and mountainous areas...

In the coming time, Khanh Hoa province will continue to focus on the leadership of Party committees and authorities at all levels, perfecting policies and laws on population; promoting communication and advocacy work; developing a comprehensive population consultation and service system; improving the capacity of staff working in population work...

Concluding the working session, Ms. Do Thi Lan highly appreciated the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province for fully deploying and implementing the documents and instructions of the Central Government on population work; the locality's own support policies as well as the results of population work achieved by Khanh Hoa province in the period of 2018-2024. Ms. Do Thi Lan suggested that the province have more suitable support policies for people working in population work; the local budget for preventive medicine, primary health care, and population activities needs to be higher; pay attention to and accelerate the construction of medical service prices for the preventive system...
