The information was announced by the National Electricity System and Market Operation Company Limited (NSMO) immediately after the event ended. This data shows the practical effectiveness of the Earth Hour campaign not only in terms of propaganda but also in bringing specific economic value.
On the evening of March 22, 63 provinces and cities across the country, along with hundreds of countries and territories around the world, simultaneously turned off their lights and limited the use of electrical equipment for one hour. This is the main activity within the framework of the Earth Hour Campaign, an annual event calling for action for the environment and energy saving.
Earth Hour started in Sydney (Australia) in 2007 and has now spread to nearly 200 countries and territories. Vietnam officially joined in 2009. 2025 marks the 17th time our country has responded to this meaningful campaign.
With the message "Green transition - Green future", the Ministry of Industry and Trade launched the movement "All people save energy in response to Earth Hour 2025", encouraging people to not only turn off the lights for 1 hour but also use energy efficiently, prioritizing energy-saving devices and renewable energy.
Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) is also one of the pioneers in the campaign, promoting propaganda through social networks, the internet and customer transaction systems. EVN also directed its member units to mobilize people, organizations and businesses to participate in turning off unnecessary lights and equipment during Earth Hour.
Over many years of organization, the Earth Hour campaign in Vietnam has become an annual activity in March every year, contributing to promoting the community's shift from awareness to practical action in saving energy and protecting the environment.
