Thanks to bold investment in applying scientific and technological advances in production and organizing joint ventures, Yen Thuy district (Hoa Binh province) has formed cooperatives in livestock and crop farming...
Many products of the cooperative have been officially exported to demanding markets such as the US, UK, etc. Exporting agricultural products not only brings economic efficiency, but also contributes significantly to forming new production thinking.
Many cooperative products exported abroad
According to Mr. Bui Huyen - Vice Chairman of Yen Thuy District People's Committee (Hoa Binh Province), there are currently 47 cooperatives in the district. The average revenue of cooperatives in 2024 is estimated at 3 billion VND, an increase of 12.9% compared to 2023. The average profit by the end of 2024 is estimated at 170 million VND/cooperative, an increase of 3.4% compared to 2023. The average income of regular workers in cooperatives is estimated at 4 million VND/person, an increase of 2.6% compared to 2023.
Currently, the district has 20 cooperative groups (THT) in operation, including 15 agricultural cooperatives; 3 water-using cooperatives; 2 small-scale industrial cooperatives. In 2024, the average revenue of the cooperatives is estimated at 195 million VND, an increase of 3.2% compared to 2023; the average profit is estimated at 110 million VND, an increase of 5.8% compared to 2023.
According to Mr. Huyen, among the above cooperatives, many have built their brands not only in the provincial market but also in other localities nationwide. In particular, many products of the cooperative have become the "key" products of Hoa Binh province for export. For example, the product "Yen Thuy salted shallots" of Phu Lai agricultural cooperative (Ro hamlet, Phu Lai commune, Yen Thuy district) has reached far and wide in the country and has been welcomed by the UK market.
Sharing about the product "Yen Thuy Salted Shallots", Mr. Bui Van An - Director of Phu Lai Agricultural Cooperative said that in 2022, the cooperative's salted shallots product will meet the provincial 3-star OCOP standard, which will not only increase the value of shallots but also help the brand "Yen Thuy Salted Shallots" reach further to the domestic and foreign markets. In particular, in early October, the first batch of "Yen Thuy Salted Shallots" was exported to the UK through RYB Joint Stock Company.
“To export to the UK market, the product must meet the strict certification and regulations of Europe as well as the UK. Accordingly, the production process of pickled shallots is carried out to ensure absolute food hygiene and safety requirements, without using preservatives. Each onion is carefully selected, processed, cleaned, fermented and bottled before being put on the market. To preserve the onions for a long time, fully retaining the characteristic flavor and precious medicinal essences inside, while still retaining the crispness when eaten, the cooperative uses glass jars to preserve the product,” said Mr. An.
According to Mr. Bui Van An, in order to meet the strict requirements of the domestic market and target foreign markets, the cooperative increasingly focuses on product design, packaging, and quality. All products are labeled, coded, barcoded, and product traceability information is fully printed from the packaging to the paper bag containing the product, thereby creating prestige and trust with consumers.
Along with the product “Yen Thuy salted shallots”, Yen Thuy also exports Dien grapefruit to the UK and the US. In 2022, 11 tons of Dien grapefruit from Yen Thuy district were “exported” to the UK, then in 2023, 50 tons of Dien grapefruit were “taken off… to fly” to the US, UK, Czech Republic markets… The value of Dien grapefruit on Yen Thuy land is increasingly making the land “change its skin”, bringing prosperity to farmers in this difficult land.
According to Mr. Trinh Dinh Son - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Yen Thuy district, in order for European and American countries to accept consumption, not only farmers but also those working in state management in the agricultural sector must change and update to meet the criteria they set. Accordingly, the size of the grapefruit they set out requires uniformity, from 900g to more than 1kg. Sweetness, aromatic taste, no bitterness, little watery shrimp. The external appearance is not sunburned, not stung by bees... With such strict requirements, the care process must be extremely meticulous and the factors of cleanliness and safety are always put first.
Promoting chain linkage in agricultural production
Evaluating the effectiveness of agricultural exports, Ms. Pham Thi Hien - Chairwoman of the Farmers' Association of Phu Lai Commune (Yen Thuy District) said that shallots are the main crop of Phu Lai commune people, but due to unstable output, this typical local product is not known. This means that the lives of people here are very difficult. However, when the District People's Committee implemented the construction of new rural areas associated with the Phu Lai shallot chain linkage, it entered a new stage of development.
“Compared to corn and rice, chives bring 10 times higher economic value. Especially when the export door opens, people's income from growing chives is increasing. Many households have become rich from growing chives,” Ms. Hien shared.
From the economic values brought about by the implementation of chain linkage models in agricultural production, Mr. Bui Huyen said that in 2025, the district will continue to encourage the development of new collective economic organizations, diverse in scale and field of operation. Promote support for the development of effective cooperative models, becoming models for replication and attracting people, organizations, and businesses to participate or associate with cooperatives.
“Chain linkage in agricultural production is not only a model of mutual enrichment but also an important factor in promoting the construction of smart agriculture. Therefore, in order to attract agricultural enterprises to participate in cooperation and linkage with collective economic organizations; it is necessary to promote land consolidation and plot exchange to create large fields for concentrated production, issue identification codes for growing areas, and prioritize resources for product processing,” Mr. Bui Huyen affirmed.
