The workshop is the basis for the Central Propaganda Department and other agencies, departments and branches to evaluate and summarize 20 years of implementing Directive No. 42-CT/TW of the Central Party Secretariat on "Improving the overall quality of publishing activities"; at the same time, making proposals and recommendations to improve the quality of human resource training for the publishing industry in Vietnam to meet development requirements in the new period.
Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Minh Son, Director of the Academy of Journalism and Communication, said that globalization and the 4.0 industrial revolution have a profound impact on all aspects of social life, creating opportunities and challenges for publishing in general and training human resources for the publishing industry in particular, with the challenges being greater.
In particular, digital transformation in the publishing sector is taking place strongly, fundamentally changing the operations of the entire industry on such aspects as: the publishing process is shortened; publishing methods change; traditional publishing business methods shift to online business methods; content creation and distribution activities shift to global content services, enhancing the experience for readers... These have posed the requirement for comprehensive innovation and improving the quality of human resource training for the publishing industry.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Trong Lam, Director and Editor-in-Chief of the National Political Publishing House, Truth, besides the successes, the training of human resources for the publishing industry in recent years still has some limitations, and the training results have not really met practical requirements.
Currently, 4/450 universities in Vietnam offer training in publishing, printing and distribution. This shows that the attractiveness of the publishing industry is somewhat weaker than that of journalism and communication in terms of income and dynamism.
Many training contents are very urgent nowadays, such as: publishing technology, communication technology, network administration, publishing business... are all new and difficult issues, but the time and necessary training conditions (facilities - technology, teaching staff, leading scientists) are still lacking.
In addition, training methods in some places and at some times are still slow to innovate, not applied synchronously, and have not fully promoted the positivity, initiative, and creativity of learners. Although the time for experimental, practical, and real-life activities has been increased, it is still not enough to meet the requirements.
The workshop received nearly 70 presentations and listened to 8 direct reports along with many profound and enthusiastic discussions from scientists and experts, all of whom agreed that innovation and improvement of training quality and human resource development are key tasks, decisive to the development of the publishing industry in Vietnam in the new period.
The opinions also pointed out the evaluation criteria and factors affecting the quality of human resource training for the Vietnamese publishing industry today, and learned about the experience of training human resources for the publishing industry in countries around the world.
Based on analysis and forecast of the context and development trends of the publishing industry, scientists have suggested and proposed a number of solutions to improve the quality of training human resources in the publishing industry in the coming time.
