The leader of the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training) said that the literature exam of this year's high school graduation exam will be open-ended, including knowledge from both inside and outside the textbooks.

On the morning of March 6 in Hue city, the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training) organized a training course on developing exam questions and exam papers for the 2025 high school graduation exam according to the 2018 general education program in the Central Highlands region.
This training session has nearly 700 teachers of 12 subjects from 17 provinces and cities in the Central and Central Highlands regions.
Of these, 14 teachers are experts from the Department of Education and Training of provinces and cities who will participate in both management and professional work.
Directly instructing teachers are 37 experts, including editors-in-chief, editors, authors of the 2018 general education program and textbooks, university lecturers participating in textbook appraisal councils and directly participating in many tasks related to the general education program.
Mr. Huynh Van Chuong said that this year's high school graduation exam has two major points to note: the exam session and the number of subjects will be shortened.
Regarding literature, Mr. Chuong said that the knowledge in the exam includes knowledge in textbooks and current events and social knowledge outside of textbooks.
This requires candidates and teachers to regularly update current information, improve their knowledge, and read more than before, when they just repeated sample texts, memorized them, and then got "crushed by the cupboard".
According to Mr. Chuong, orienting the literature exam like this helps to correctly assess the thinking, ability, and respect the autonomy of candidates.
Mr. Chuong gave an example of an exam question that could be an excerpt from a quote by the General Secretary, a famous person related to a current issue of public interest. Therefore, candidates need to read more to grasp information and have opinions to analyze the questions. The test-makers must improve their knowledge to create questions that are close to reality and have a correct answer framework.
"In addition, the previous English exam only had answers A, B, C, D, but this year candidates will have to fill in the blanks," he added.
Mr. Chuong said that for those reasons, the Ministry of Education and Training has organized such training courses to develop the capacity of the team that creates exam questions and exam papers in the direction of assessing capacity for both local and national levels.
On that basis, the ministry will select a team of teachers with capacity and qualities to participate deeply in the professional work of the ministry and localities in the period of 2025-2030 and long term.
