>> Yen Bai strengthens state management of food safety
Although the weather is complicated, with prolonged rain and humidity, along with the Tet holiday, the bustling buying and selling and transportation of food is a great risk of spreading disease. However, according to the reporter's records, from the beginning of the year until now, in Yen Bai, there have been no dangerous infectious diseases such as African swine fever, foot and mouth disease, lumpy skin disease or avian influenza. That is the result of the entire political system's propaganda and mobilization, and the livestock owners themselves have become more aware of disease prevention work.
Especially before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2025, Yen Bai has strengthened monitoring, inspection and vaccination for livestock and poultry, limiting the risk of disease outbreaks. Localities have also taken measures to prevent hunger, cold and natural disasters seriously. Thanks to proactively implementing protective measures, so far there have been no cases of livestock being damaged by severe cold - a very encouraging result as Yen Bai is going through a harsh winter. In addition, it is impossible not to mention that Yen Bai has done a very good job of quarantine for the transportation of animals and animal products.
In February, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine quarantined 182 shipments of animals transported out of the province, including 17,137 breeding pigs, 35,750 poultry, 10,400 rabbits, and tens of thousands of kilograms of animal products. In the opposite direction, the province also strictly controlled 15 shipments of animals imported into the area with a total of 25,126 animals and 30,700 kilograms of animal products. All shipments were thoroughly inspected to prevent pathogens from entering the province. Quarantine not only helps to manage the origin of animals well, ensuring the quality of livestock but also contributes to protecting consumers from the risk of dirty food of unknown origin.
Not only stopping at transport quarantine, Yen Bai also pays special attention to slaughter control, ensuring that each meat product reaching the people meets food hygiene and safety standards. In February 2025, more than 10,000 livestock and poultry were slaughtered, including 680 pigs, 9,450 poultry and 4 buffaloes. These numbers show that the authorities have made continuous efforts to monitor and strictly inspect the slaughter process, avoiding the circulation of poor quality food on the market. In addition, the province also promotes the issuance of food safety facility certificates, confirming the commitment to producing clean food. In February, 7 slaughterhouses and 1 beekeeping facility were certified, helping consumers feel more secure when choosing food.
Along with proactive disease prevention, to ensure food supply and restore production after storm No. 3 (YAGI) and compensate for consumption during the Tet holiday, herd restoration in the province is being implemented synchronously, from policy mechanisms to households, household owners, farm owners, livestock companies. Because during the Tet holiday alone, the number of poultry and livestock sold and slaughtered is quite large with over 71 thousand cattle and over 1 million poultry. Besides, the current high price of live pigs, farmers are starting to make a profit, which is an important driving force for herd restoration.
Talking about the development goals in the livestock industry, Mr. Ninh Tran Phuong, Deputy Head of the Provincial Veterinary Department, said: "In 2025, the livestock industry of Yen Bai sets a target of a total herd of over 950 thousand animals, and the output of fresh meat of all kinds reaches over 83 thousand tons. To achieve the goal, Yen Bai has proposed fundamental solutions from the immediate to the long term, from developing livestock in a safe direction, organic livestock farming, to proactively sourcing quality, disease-free breeds and both in the consumption and slaughter stages...". Along with that, livestock farmers pay special attention to disease prevention, periodic vaccination for livestock herds... Promote livestock farming in chains, linking and connecting livestock households together... With strict disease prevention measures and strict food control, the livestock industry of Yen Bai is moving towards a safe and sustainable livestock model. In the immediate future and at this moment, we continue to deploy a large-scale vaccination campaign and strengthen disease control, ensuring no to cause a major outbreak in the area.
Thanks to the drastic intervention of the authorities, livestock in Yen Bai province is being firmly protected against the risk of disease. This is not only good news for farmers but also ensures the health of consumers in the province.
