This morning, October 10, the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly, the President, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Hanoi City solemnly held the National Celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024).
This is the most important event in the series of activities celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital, a memorable milestone in the journey of building and developing the heroic Capital of the heroic country of Vietnam.

Delivering a speech at the ceremony, General Secretary and President To Lam said that today, in the capital Hanoi, a thousand years of culture and heroism, the City for Peace, the heart of the whole country, we solemnly celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital.
According to General Secretary and President To Lam, in the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation under the talented leadership of Uncle Ho, the Party Central Committee and the Government, the capital Hanoi has always had a particularly important role and position, associated with brilliant milestones full of honor and pride. The first Communist Party cell was established in Hanoi; on August 19, 1945, the August Revolution won complete victory in Hanoi, quickly spreading everywhere, encouraging and strongly promoting the people of the whole country to rise up and seize power. On September 2, 1945, at the historic Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, opening a new era - the era of independence, freedom and socialism; opening a new era, the glorious Ho Chi Minh era. Article 3 of the 1946 Constitution - the first constitution of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam - determined that "The capital is located in Hanoi".
We will never forget the historic moment on the morning of October 10, 1954, when the City Military Commission and military units divided into many large groups and launched a historic march into Hanoi. More than four hundred thousand people in the capital were excited and joyful in the forest of flags and flowers, enthusiastically welcoming the victorious army, the revolutionary army, and Uncle Ho's army back home.
In the afternoon of the same day, tens of thousands of people and armed forces were joyful and moved, attending the flag-raising ceremony organized by the Military Committee at the Flagpole Stadium and listening to President Ho Chi Minh's appeal to the people of the Capital on the occasion of the Liberation Day. That historic moment was a testament to the national strength, solidarity, and aspiration for peace of our people; a milestone opening a new period of development for the Capital and the country; marking the complete defeat of French colonialism in Vietnam, ending 9 years of protracted resistance. Hanoi - the capital of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam - was cleared of enemies; Our people were masters of their own destiny and the country, enthusiastically joining hands to build a new society, a Socialist society; opening a new period of great glory in the thousand-year history of culture and heroism of Thang Long - Hanoi in the Ho Chi Minh era.
After being liberated, under the leadership of the Party, with the spirit of self-reliance, hard work and creativity, the capital Hanoi overcame the consequences of war, restored the economy, transformed socialism, built and developed.
The country is peaceful and unified, the capital Hanoi and the whole country enter a new revolutionary stage, moving towards socialism. Under the leadership of the Party, the Party Committee, the government and the people of Hanoi together with the whole country make efforts, persevere, overcome all difficulties, carry out the renovation and international integration, and achieve great achievements of historical significance.
According to General Secretary and President To Lam, from a city with a relatively small scale, area, population, backward infrastructure and economy, heavily devastated by war after liberation, Hanoi today has become the national political and administrative nerve center, a major center of culture, science, education, economy and international integration; one of the 17 largest cities in the world with an increasingly civilized, modern, dynamic, creative appearance, imbued with the eternal cultural and historical values of the thousand-year-old Dong Do - Thang Long land.
With its outstanding achievements and great contributions over the past 70 years, Hanoi has been honored to receive many noble awards from the Party and State: 3 Gold Star Orders, Ho Chi Minh Order, First Class Independence Order and the titles: "Heroic Capital", "Hero of the People's Armed Forces". Hanoi is proud to be the only city in Asia - Pacific to be awarded the title "City for Peace" by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); The first capital of Southeast Asia to be recognized by UNESCO as a member of the global "Creative Cities Network" in 2019.
The great achievements that Hanoi has achieved are all associated with the wise leadership of the glorious Communist Party of Vietnam, of the great President Ho Chi Minh, the crystallization of patriotism, solidarity, diligence, talent and creativity, bravery and resilience in fighting, working and studying of generations of cadres, party members, compatriots and soldiers of the capital; the cooperation and assistance of ministries, departments, branches, central organizations and localities throughout the country with the spirit of "Hanoi for the whole country, the whole country for Hanoi" and the support and assistance of international friends.
The need to bring the country into a new era poses increasingly high tasks for Hanoi.

In particular, being exemplary and taking the lead in successfully implementing the Party's Resolutions, first of all, accelerating and making breakthroughs in successfully implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, the Resolution of the 17th City Party Congress; preparing well in all aspects to successfully organize the Party Congresses at all levels for the 2025-2030 term, the 18th Hanoi Party Congress towards the 14th National Party Congress; making every effort to effectively implement Resolution No. 15-NQ/TW dated May 5, 2022 of the Politburo on the direction and tasks for the development of the capital city of Hanoi until 2030, with a vision to 2045.
