VINUNI COLLABORATES WITH NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE ON INNOVATION

Hanoi, January 25, 2024, VinUni University and National University of Singapore (NUS) - Top 8 Universities in the world - officially signed a Cooperation Agreement to promote innovation, especially in the field of smart cities and new solutions for public health.

The signing ceremony took place under the witness of Singaporean Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Vietnam, Mr. Jaya Ratnam; Vice President and Provost of NUS, Prof. Aaron Thean; Dr. Le Mai Lan - Vice President of Vingroup, Chairwoman of VinUni University Council; academic leaders of both sides, along with representatives of the Singapore Business Association in Vietnam (Singcham) and the NUS Alumni Association in Vietnam.

The objective of the Agreement is to identify and implement innovative initiatives in education and research to develop leaders and contribute to creating positive impacts in the two countries and regions. NUS and VinUni will cooperate in: Enhancing diverse learning opportunities for talented students through the design of new pathways and programs; Exchange interdisciplinary research, seek technology commercialization opportunities; Co-organize scientific conferences, seminars, and leadership training programs in areas that can create breakthroughs of mutual interest.

In the field of training, immediately after signing the cooperation agreement, the two sides discussed the pilot training model of integrating bachelor's - master's - doctoral degrees in 8 years for talented students. The program will be co-taught by lecturers from both sides, implemented in two countries and co-designed and awarded by two universities. In particular, with the goal of interdisciplinary research training, the program is not only for students majoring in engineering and technology, but also for students in other fields such as social sciences and business administration.

In the field of research, the two sides worked with leaders of Khanh Hoa province and Nha Trang city and discussed the establishment of joint research groups, close coordination between the university and local authorities in the strategic project on "Green Transformation, Green Growth" of the city.

Speaking at the Signing Ceremony, Singaporean Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Jaya Ratnam said: “The world has seen many changes in the past year. But challenges are also opportunities. With VinUni’s commitment to becoming an excellent university, I believe that the cooperation agreement with NUS will contribute very positively to promoting that goal.”

Representing NUS, Professor Aaron Thean – Vice President and Provost shared: “We are very impressed with the development and vision of VinUni. Southeast Asia has a lot of potential for development, so more than ever we need a community of change makers. NUS highly values ​​the cooperation with VinUni, because this is a cooperation associated with specific actions, especially in projects related to the field of smart cities and new solutions for public health”.

Professor David Bangsberg, President of VinUni, also affirmed: “NUS and VinUni share the same vision of innovation, constant progress, and not being satisfied with existing achievements. Both sides are particularly interested in jointly designing pioneering programs to accelerate leadership training, and jointly establishing joint research groups in important areas in the development roadmap of Southeast Asia.”

The National University of Singapore is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary university with excellent teaching and research quality. In 2024, NUS ranked 8th in the list of top universities in the world and held the No. 1 position in Asia according to the QS World University Ranking. Recently, the university has implemented major reforms in interdisciplinary liberal education as well as vigorously implementing groundbreaking interdisciplinary research on innovation.

VinUni is a private, not-for-profit university founded by Vingroup. The university is particularly interested in developing future leaders and innovation in research training. As an elite university, VinUni is especially active in cooperating with excellent universities around the world to jointly implement pilot models of green transformation and green growth for the purpose of improving the quality of life, work and tourism in key localities of Vietnam.

Prior to the signing ceremony with NUS, at the end of December 2023, VinUni announced the signing of a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Saïd Business School, University of Oxford; and also signed with the Department of Technology Application and Development, Ministry of Science and Technology to strengthen cooperation in the fields of research, improving the quality of human resources, and implementing activities to promote innovation.

In addition to training talents, one of VinUni's focuses is promoting research to make innovation a driving force for sustainable economic development, increasing labor productivity and competitiveness of businesses, economic sectors and the country./.
