On the morning of November 5, the Vietnam Golden Ball 2024 award organized by Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper was announced in Ho Chi Minh City. From now until the end of 2024, Vietnamese football is still quite busy with important international events: the 2025 Asian women's futsal qualifiers, the 2024 Southeast Asian men's and women's futsal tournaments, the 2024 AFF Cup; the National Women's Football Cup; the 2024 National Futsal Cup... Therefore, Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper officially launched the vote for the Vietnam Golden Ball 2024 title to add fire to the players before the "big battles", helping them to be more confident and stronger in their journey to conquer the peak of achievements with domestic clubs as well as the national team.
Former striker Le Cong Vinh won the Vietnamese Golden Ball three times.
As the winner of 3 Vietnam Golden Balls in 2004, 2006 and 2007, former player Le Cong Vinh shared: "The Golden Ball Award will give players more motivation to be more responsible for themselves, their careers and their image to everyone and society. The Golden Ball is the highest title in a player's life. Of course, each player goes on the field not only to win the Golden Ball, but first of all for the flag and colors of the team, from there having the opportunity to join the national team and contribute to the country. If the team plays well and achieves good results, outstanding individuals will be honored, from the recognition of experts".
Regarding the competition for the 2024 Golden Ball title, Cong Vinh commented: "Up to this point, Nguyen Tien Linh is playing well and has the most goals (6 goals) in the V-League. It's been a long time since a domestic striker has scored so many goals after 6 rounds. But I think the achievements of the Vietnam national team will be put first and will be the deciding factor. The national team has only played friendly matches recently, so we have to wait until after the 2024 AFF Cup ends for the 2024 Men's Golden Ball title to be revealed, but at the moment it's impossible to say who is the most deserving. If he and the Vietnam national team are successful at the 2024 AFF Cup, Tien Linh will be a strong candidate for the title."
With 6 goals, Tien Linh is leading the V-League top scorer list after 6 rounds.
The 2024 Vietnam Golden Ball Awards include 12 categories: Golden, Silver, Bronze Ball for men; Golden, Silver, Bronze Ball for women; Golden, Silver, Bronze Ball for futsal (men); Outstanding foreign player, Outstanding young male player, Outstanding young female player. It is expected that by the end of November 2024, the organizing committee will send invitations to participate in voting for the award along with a list of candidates to delegates, who are football experts, coaches of national teams, coaches, captains of V-League clubs, women's teams, futsal teams, colleagues representing press agencies and television stations nationwide. The 2024 Vietnam Golden Ball Awards ceremony is expected to take place in February 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City.
